Yes. Even before the trade. Don't get me wrong, I love Landry, but Scola definitely brings more to the table. Now we're seeing that a little more clearly, though.
Anyone know how many times he had to jump to get those 44 pts? I was gonna say that this was a rhetorical question, but if someone took the time to do the research, Scola might have set a record!
I wouldnt say the rebounding is a slight edge there meaning its close. Landry is closer to Ariza and Lowry as a rebounder than he is to Scola. At least this year. Thats not very good for a power forward. The true shooting is a slight edge, closer than you'd think. Still its the difference between Steve Nash and Aaron Brooks. Both can put the ball through the rim, but Nash at a level beyond. The assist %, whatever on that. Landry is a damn good finisher, why should he need to pass? Misleading in that both seemed to get in trouble with the defense smothering them, forcing them to make a pass. Maybe its games I watched. Maybe its certain matchups. I recall Scola getting ate up a few games. There were more games I actually felt bad for Scola than I did Landry. Not years past, THIS year I've seen Landry matched up on Dwight Howard and players you'd think Scola would take. Landry also started contesting more shots in the air. I thought THIS year Landry had the slight edge.
Scola has been and is a better PF than Landry for the Rockets. He's been huge for us over the years. He isn't injury prone and hasn't missed a start. Landry has also been important and he emerged this year as the go to guy in the 4th quarter. I think that Scola hasn't put up his usual numbers because he wasn't given the opportunity to finish games. Now that he is, he's showing what he can do. He always had this in him, as he's shown over the past few years, he just needed the minutes. He isn't a selfish player, and he wants whats best for the team so he was always doing other things to help the team rather than score when people would get hot. When the Rox needed him to score though, he did.
I also wanted to add that if he is in a Rockets uniform next year, he is going to be even better because: 1) He got valuable experience this year as the go to guy down low without any real help 2) Yao is going to be getting more attention giving Scola a better opportunity to get more easy points and rebounds.
Definitely Scola. Defense and Rebounding with weapons in the paint. Has a more Complete game Landry was a I dimensional player, his job was to score at a very efficient rate but that was it. Scola fits better with scoring wings and specially alongside Yao with both of them nobody can dominate us in the glass. He just fits better with the team that is built around Yao. If I had to choose between the two it would be hands down Scola.
When did Landry ever was better than Scola? Last time I check when Landry is still playing for the rox, Scola starts and Landry sits.
i think those saying landry is better are missing how bad he looked when doubled. Landry cant move very well without the ball unless it's to the rim, while scola knows where to go anywhere from 16-17 feet in to get open. Scola is also better on fast breaks, you'd think landry's athleticism would give him the edge, but landry hardly finished on the break. Scola gets up and down the court as well as any big man and can finish.
3 weeks ago, I would have said Landry was the better PF for the Rockets. But since the trade, Scola has been on an entirely new level. He's not only being consistent, he's putting up incredible numbers... something I never expected him to do. At this point, I don't think I would rather have any other PF in the league playing for this team.
Landry who? Jk, I love landry but I have to go w Scola on this one. He is just such a competitor and brings it every game. He has really stepped it up since the trade. Not only this but it seems like Luis has always known he can produce these results and was just quietly awaiting his opportunity to explode. Do not forget Luis is a champion and has always played hard. Its the only way he knows how. And for that, I thank him.
I think Scola is a better rebounder overall, but Landry has the edge in offensive rebounding, with Luis much better on the defensive end. Speaking of defense, I've never thought Carl is a better defensive player. Luis has much better technique, in my opinion, better at rotations, a better team defender. He's also bigger, but obviously without Carl's athleticism. It's not hard for me to say. I love Landry and wish he was still on the team, but Scola is better.
Landry is a tad bit better at scoring. But, Scola is a lot better rebounder. The Rockets with Yao Ming, need Scola more than Landry.
Scola is more talented than Landry...but landry is stronger and more athletic. Skill wise Scola is a no brainer...Scola is as talented as any PF in NBA...only thing is he is not athletic he doesn't have that "wow" factor that many fans and media look for...but footwork, fundamentals, IQ, Scola has it all.
So you say Landry was the team MVP but you voted for Scola?????? WOW And do people forget all the 4th quarter scoring Landry had? Yes, Scola had a great game and has been playing well but Landry was better.
I do believe Scola is better, but at some point in his life Carl will be better than Scola ever was. Carl will hit his highest ceiling in a few years Scola is at his ceiling, but he is damn good.
Scola has to be better.. for the first time Scola is playing STARTER minutes not just starting.. Scola is putting up better numbers than Landry is in Sacramento when they are both playing those starter minutes.. Scola has really benefited from this trade.. now he can be on the court all the time..
I'd add to that that Scola has ALWAYS been a TEAM PLAYER FIRST, stats waaay later.... Scola was misunderstood before the trade because, seeing that there were enough scorers, he tried to contribute doing other things to help the team.... Now he's forced to take more shots, as the only inside scoring option, and he shows what he always was able to do....score a lot when he was asked to... In the olimpics he was ahead Manu Ginobili as tournament MVP, on his euro teams he had crazy scoring when injuries compelled him to take more shots... Anyway, no matter how much Scola scores the rest of the season, be sure that when Yao is back and the rest of the team is healthy, he won't hesitate in letting others score (same attitude as Manu Ginobili)....you won't see him complaining of not having enough FG attempts.
