Less than an hour after the Browns released Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell on Wednesday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Schaub is a candidate to end up in Cleveland, where he would be reunited with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Minutes later, the Houston Chronicle's John McClain reported that the Texans are keeping Schaub "for a while." It's a reversal from six days ago, when McClain tweeted that he would be "stunned" if the team holds on to Schaub. McClain also opined that Schaub is better than any quarterback who "was or is on the market" and that Schaub is "not going anywhere anytime soon." Translation: With a vacancy at the top of the quarterback depth chart and no pressing salary-cap issues, the Texans are not in a hurry to do the Browns any favors. If they can wrangle a late-round draft pick out of the process, all the better. The smart money is still on Schaub taking the field in a different uniform for the 2014 season opener. Despite McClain's proclamation to the contrary, the 32-year-old is far from a lock to land a starting job wherever he lands. An abject disaster last year, Schaub hasn't played like a quarterback who trusts his arm since the middle of the 2012 season. The "Around The League Podcast" is now available on iTunes! There's no way, what's the value on Schaub at this point, a 6th... maybe. He's a throw in basically in any deal for # 1.1 and I doubt 1.1 gets you the two number 1's from Cleveland. I think more realistically it's like 1.4, 2.3 and a 4th and we'll take Schaub because you are cutting him anyway.
I'm not sure how contracts work in the NFL, but could we trade Schaub and pay some of his salary, like in the NBA. Would probably help in any trade.
Once Vick goes off the market, who's out there who's even comparable? Freeman? No ****ing way. For a team like the Raiders who have no QBs and tons of cap room, Schaub would be a clear improvement and won't hamper them financially.
