Yeah, it really slipped down a notch or two since Ferrell left. I've not been impressed. To me, it's kind of a like a sports team in a rebuilding mode right now.
Hasn't been **** since Will Farrell left. I was watching the ones from 2001 on CC the other week and was laughing my ass off. They need to get someone really, really funny on there fast
I think most of the females on the show are funny. I think much of the writing on the show is really bad. The guys aren't holding up their end of the bargain for whatever reason. I don't know if it's writing or just them. Pued, I have to disagree about Amy P. She's hilarious. She isn't used enough on the show, and if you ever get the chance to watch her work live(Many Sundays at the UCB theater in NY.) She's hilarious, and very talented.
Well we aren't really disagreeing, because I think she's hilarious too - but somehow on SNL they've managed to make her not funny except for small spurts. I can't explain it, because I know she's funny - I assume it's the writers.
Yeah you're right. The one character where I thought she was hilarious was when she played Avril Lavigne. I only saw it once for a brief a second on Weekend update. I wish she would do more stuff like that.
If you take out Will Ferrel then you are right. Once Spade, Sandler, Farley, Myers, Hartman, Rock, Carvey, etc. left in the early 90's it has went downhill. But that is saying a lot though considering what a great comedic pace they and the previous yrs cast set. I still watch SNL every saturday night, except some of the reruns. I like Hammond, Poehler and Fey, they are the best on the cast. Fallon, Tracy and Horatio are good also. They've got to recast if you ask me, especially the guys. MadTV is sometimes good, but usually horrible. It has declines a lot also, but it was never that great to begin with, like SNL.
SNL goes in cycles of when it is good and when it is crummy. I think its in the downward trend right now, but in a few years it will come back.
I have a friend working at Second City in Chicago. He says that Rachel Dratch goes in all the time and that it's clear that they aren't using her right at SNL. She's apparently hysterical.
I love Rachel D. I love that skit where she's that nerdy band kid with the tie. I can relate. I also loved when her and Will were that horny "My Luuuuver" couple. "Ow, ow, ow, MY BACK...GET OFF ME!!!!" All the women of SNL are under used except Tina. She's just not funny IMO. Maya Rudolph is pretty funny too.
Will Ferrell carried SNL during the past several years the way Eddie Murphy carried SNL in the early 80's. Darrell Hammond has been completely underused, while guys like Jimmy Fallon, Chris Kataan, Chris Parnell (not very funny), have been very much overused. Tim Meadows was pretty brilliant several years ago when he was featured more on the show (Ladies' Man, 'Perspectives', the skit where he was playing a foul mouthed 'homeboy' in a white family with Teri Hatcher, and that one skit where he was singing/playing the piano in the recording studio, then would go into random non-sequiturs (Elle McPherson was the host)).
"Yeah...alright, fellas, play it now....yeah.....me chinese, me play joke, me put pee pee in your coke" Classic! Also, the foul mouthed house guest was the first thing that came to mind when I saw Omega Supreme's picture in another thread.
hmmm... i've never seen an episode of snl. not sure why. i used to be an avid follower of mad tv though. the reason i brought this thread back is because yesterday, i went to blockbuster and bought "superstar" on dvd since i misplaced my other one. this has the be the second funniest movie ever created after "office space", but it's funny in a different way. i forgot the name of the girl with the pigtails in the movie, but she steals the show from molly shannon.
