it's WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too early to be asking this question. We don't even know how the rest of the season will play out. Getting past the first round and competing hard in the second brings about different emotions than getting swept in the first round (just to give an example). I'm sure he's going to consider the season and not just location and money.
He's audition starts tomorrow. Considering the rumors of being a disturbance off the court (as if we didn't have enough of it), I'm leaning towards no. But then again, winning basketball solves a lot of things.
you're thinking of restricted free agent, which landry was. Ron will be an unrestricted free agent. bird rights is going over the salary cap to sign your own players
There is less than 10% chance that the Rockets will resign Artest. So enjoy the last 30 to 40 games he'll be playing for us.
Did Morey openly admit that he tried to move him for Caron Butler? I'd say that was a good indicator.
Ron can freely sign with any other team after this year without the Rockets getting any compensation or the right to match the offer. That was what the other member was confused about. Bird rights is just having the ability to go over the salary cap to sign your own players.
Wait for whom? I think Ron is the best SF rockets can get at this stage, anyone better than him is pretty much out of reach... If lord helps Rockets to pass the 1st round this year, it's gonna be the Artest factor, not Yao or Tmac(who would be the MEC, Most Expensive Cheerleader). In playoffs a guy like Artest would be pure gold for Rockets.
I'll bet if we make it past the first round (and if he's a major influence) we'll find a way to re-sign him.
The Rockets do not have any ability to match Ron but they can pay him more than any other team if they have the cap space, they have his bird rights and can increase his salary at a faster pace than someone else signing him. They have Ron's bird rights. DD
