so if you have a comcast modem but have it hooked up to your own router...then no free hot spot?

Are they still going to charge you to "rent" these routers?

You can opt out of this, simply call and opt out. My job here is done.

Use a different channel. I don't think believe wireless signals frequency hop between channels only withing channel frequencies.

Comcast is by far the fastest internet you can get. There is plenty of bandwidth on the cable for the extra traffic.

Who still leases a modem from comcast? They're like $70 on Amazon. It would pay for itself in less than a year.

And it occupies space inside your home that Comcast should be paying monthly rent for.

If you have phone service thru Comcast, the price for a voice compatible modem was like $150 last time I checked. At around 2 years to break even with the $7 monthly fee, it was much less worth it. Especially since comcast would upgrade you to a new model if one became available if you are renting from them, and replace the modem if it broke.

Get VoIP service. A true landline is worthless nowadays, and even ISPs are providing VoIP as phone lines and charging a ridiculous amount for it.

With VoIP, you pay for the device up front and pay maybe $3-4 per month in taxes/minutes depending on which you choose.

smh. Now if they gave the modem and router for free. That would make sense. Or if they paid the consumer back for every user that logged onto free wifi provided by their router.

I have my own modem and router so I hope this doesn't apply to me. I see an option to connect to "xfinitywifi." So is it just using one persons router? Or does it somehow combine all the routers in that area?

Been getting intermittent connectivity on my Internet, so I called Comcast. They claim they no longer support my DOCSIS 2.0 modem, and offered me a faster (aka more expensive) package along with a free DOCSIS 3.0 modem rental.

After the call, no intermittent connectivity issue whatsoever. This is before I even activated the new rental modem.

So they were ****ing with my connection just to sell me on a higher priced package + the new public wifi modem.

    **** Comcast.
