Well, let's compare and contrast. 1. The commentator in this case has a pretty balanced career behind him of non-inflammatory, responsible reporting and commenting. 2. Despite #1, everyone (nearly 90% or so in this poll) is calling him way way off base with the race suggestion. I've never seen such a lopsided poll. If Rush said something racially stupid*, as he has before, and we ran a poll here, there would be more people defending Limbaugh than we currently have defending the sports commentator here. Seriously, and that's kind of sad. Not to pile on, but just look at it. The commentator is getting roundly decried here, and that totally undercuts your "double standard" suggestion, IMHO. * = I'm giving you a complete pass on comparing (1) the suggestion that the media gives more coverage to Tiger's sexcapades than some white athlete's sexcapades to (2) some of the choice and confirmed bile that Limbaugh has offered up from time to time.
Dude, Tiger Woods is 186X the celebrity Ben Rothlesberger is. Tiger Woods is the only billionaire athelete and probably top 5-10 most well known people in the world. Football may be the most popular sport in the United States but Tiger Woods is by far the most popular athelete in the world. This incident had countless witnesses and like others have said, the saga kind of takes a life of its own. You're really reaching if you think race has a play in the coverage. They're covering it because everybody knows who this supposedly wholesome hero of the past 15 years is and that's great for ratings. Ratings = $$$.
Question: If Peyton Manning's wife chased him down the road in the middle of the night launching footballs at him causing him to wreck his car and beating him up would that be a story? Then afterword all of these skanks starting coming out of the woodwork saying they were banging Peyton Manning would this escalate the story? I say a definite yes to both scenarios. Race is a factor in the Tiger Woods situation, but only to those who dislike Tiger because he's black. Most white people love Tiger Woods, and will continue to be a fan after this. I know I will, even if I have lost a little respect for him as a person.
Am I really reaching no coverage by ESPN at all. I'm just saying there is something there. Foxsport I can't knock them too much because they did cover Ben's case at the beggining, also so did Sportingnews but ESPN is all on this case and gave no coverage to the Big Ben allagations. Yes Tiger is a bigger world star so I get the national news coverage. But ESPN don't cover soccer full season around so Tiger being a world star has nothing to do with it. To claim there isn't any at all race to do with this is basically dissmissing it. That's these problem continue because we dissmiss it.
Exactly. The squeaky clean, I practice in thunderstorms because I'm that amazing, image that Nike created is just fun to see tumble. Its the same reason I want Tebow to fail. And Tebow's about as white as it gets. I'm loving this Alabama game. "Hmmm, Tim, I guess God doesn't want Florida to win, after all." I like Tiger more now that he's human, to be honest. I had trouble rooting for a robot.
I was wrong about people not knowing who Taylor Swift is, however I'm going to continue to believe the incident did wonders for her career. Also I forgot about the demographics of the posters in here before I stated what I did. They l o v e their teenage celebrities
LOL She has been one of the best selling acts in America for the past two years. The Kanye incident got her momentary buzz, but it didn't help her already sparkling career.
