Race ALWAYS plays a role in anything that has to do with people. As one peice of evidence, the question came up, right? So on some level, it plays a role. That said, I don't beleive race is a playing a "negative" role. (I intentially used quotes because what is viewed as negative means different things to different people.)
There's a comedic nature to this story. I mean the chick chased him down with a golf club to the point where he crashed his truck. Have any of you seen a woman get that mad? I'm sure somebody on here has been caught cheating (yeah your wife wasn't embarrassed on the international stage) but still. and she chased him with a golf club, Hello, he's a golfer. that's funny, you can't make this stuff up. the story is so outlandish and unbelievable it can't help take on a life of its own
I've pointed this out here and to several people. The idea she took a golf club and went after Tiger (in the car)
Is race an issue- NO!!!! This PC crap has to stop! I don't what the hell Wilbon is talkin' about. Wood is a very popular & famous figure who just happen to got caught cheating on his wife. Hahaha, apparently, he doesn't keep his little Tiger in check! He's just apologizing & feels remorsefull because he got his arse caught! I'm sure if Wilbon ever gets caught cheatin' on his wife, I seriously doubt anyone would give a rat's ass!
I'm sure Tiger has received plenty of racist hate mail because he's married to a white woman. The thing about Tiger's white wife and other black athletes that have white wives is that Tiger's wife's picture is splashed all over the place. Everyone knows he has a white wife. The TMZ's of the world are scum and will cover anyone but who knows what people are interested in this because Tiger is black and these women are white. Nobody really knows, not even rhino17's all knowing schmuck self.
So long fried rice, hello fried chicken. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZeBFV2hjF1c&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZeBFV2hjF1c&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
So you WEREN'T "just stirring up crap." You really believe she was a nobody until Kanye did his thing. Guess what? You are wrong. She was a country/pop sensation. She was the little girl princess.
This is worth arguing over? My point of stirring up crap was not even about Kanye and Taylor Swift, it was about a black man doing a white woman wrong and all the attention it brings (not that I believe that is true). On my second post I was replying to someone who stated that Taylor Swift was big before this incident, off topic from my silly initial post. I just didn't believe that was true, I thought the attention got her fame beyond anything she would have gotten in absence of the incident. I think probably half of the people on this board didn't know who Taylor Swift was before the MTV Awards show...
I guarantee you that you are wrong about half the people not knowing who she was. And yes, it is worth arguing you over because you are talking about of both sides of your mouth. One the one hand you are saying race isn't an issue, but on the other hand you are talking about Taylor Swift only being famous because a black man "did her wrong."
Oh, how Wilbon forgets about Bill Clinton and Mark Sanford. While there was a circus act for Bill's impeachment, there is also one for Mark going on right now. There is no huge white media campaign for his multiple sponsors to fire Tiger. http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=4713202
Its not because he's not white , it's because he's rich, famous, and good at golf. 3 things every men wish they had.
Yeah, that's what surprises me. He's one of the few pundits I actually give a second thought to. It's a crazy story involving one of the most famous athletes, nay, celebrities on Earth. I mean who else could get an Accenture endorsement?
Well, I'll take your word for it. He might not really believe it's a race issue. He could be trolling. I am sure internet searches for Michael Wilbon have shot up. He probably gets paid for each click on his articles.
I'm not trying to defend him, but he definitely doesn't seem like the type to pull stunts or be contrarian for the sake of it. I think this just happens to be one of those times Wilbon has been WAY OFF the mark. Like others have said, he seems like one of the last guys to pull the race card.
When it comes to ESPN I do start to think about the race issue. Remember ESPN didn't cover at all the Ben Rothenserger case during the offseason to a point they didn't even report it. I'm just saying why no coverage there and all the coverage. We care more about football than golf when it comes down to it. Ben was the Super Bowl wining QB and threw the game winning TD at that. He has a rape case no coverage at all by the network.
