I agree. There are plenty of PFs who can shoot. But can they also defend? The reason why Patterson is our starting PF, as soft as he is, is because he can do both quite decently.

superstar/all star PF would push the rockets into top 4 in west easily

backup pg (toney is really a spot up 2 playing the backup pg). he had trouble in ny because dantoni basically had him try to run that offense.

I think Patterson will get better on the boards. He just fell in love with his perimeter game after discovering it this season. It's a matter of focus with him. The physical tools are there.

Morris will never be a good rebounder. Never. He is strictly a stretch four at 6'7" with short arms and 3-point shot mentality.

can morris become the black, less athletic, robert horry? I've been impressed with some of the defense he has played these past 5 games, by fronting his man or helping out from the weakside. On offense, he draws his defender away from the basket creating space for hardlin to go do what they do.

I can do without the iso drawn up for morris though. We ran it twice in a row last night.

Well so far Morris is outrebounding PPat so unless PP proves otherwise MM is the better rebounder. He's also the better player over all, despite PP's better D the team's +/- is higher when MM is on the floor.

That's only because Lin's play has improved during the past 2 weeks and the +/- of Morris has benefited from that.

I think Patterson will prove to be the better rebounder once he steers his focus away from the perimeter and regains his focus on the boards. This season, Patterson has attempted 2.6 three-point shots per game. Last season, he attempted just 0.1.

Rebounding per 40 minutes (pace adjusted)

    Patterson 7.6 (last season)
    Morris 7.2 (this season)

Amare Stoudemire. Knicks are looking to dump him. Only problem is he's super expensive but Rockets can work out something with the Knicks. He's a definite upgrade over Paterson or Morris.

AND he's a proven run and gun PF i.e. D'Antoni's Suns. Rockets has been playing the same type of uptempo offense.

That is actually the best part of his game coming out of college. That you can iso him, and he can get off a good shot. The whole poor-man's Melo came from that ability.

Obviously with Harden being superstar and Parsons/Lin getting better at creating good shots, Morris isn't really having plays run for him. But the Rockets might be looking to get him more involved. If he can develop that aspect of his game, it would both raise the deadliness of our offense, as well his potential trade value.

I'm surprised nobody is mentioning Anthony Davis as a potential PF option. Guy's pretty good all around. The Hornets are extremely unlikely to be willing to trade him, but Morey might be able to use some mind tricks. I find him more attainable than Love, LMA or Stoudemire though.
