Quality role players on rookie contracts have amazing value. It's not just Morey who wants low cost high production players. Every GM looks for them. First, Saint Patrick needs some PT to showcase his abilities. Only then, will other teams covet him.

Everyone thought Brooks and Landry were selected way too early as well. I think Morey just has a better system for rating players than most other "experts" do.

Brooks and Landry were primarily the work of Adelman Cd and Hinkie. Morey gets credit fro Dorsey and Taylor. Budinger was primarily Adelman.

Seriously I know this thread is getting old so I will write this as my final post in this 0 star rated thread (if it were possible).

Let me be clear I don’t want to walk away leaving the idea I dislike Patterson. Draft day I said among the players that I thought had a chance to drop to 14 I would take Patterson, Sanders Aldrich and George in that order. I really liked the work ethic and character of the kid and he seemed so consistent. I felt Patterson right now is better and we are in win mode now. But immediately after we picked Patterson or maybe after the Bucks picked Sanders I felt we made a mistake and we took the safe pick as opposed the pick that would make us better.

But that doesn't mean I disliked Patterson just I would have patterson 7th on my board not 6. So that should make it clear I like Patterson and I am only having a little buyer’s remorse. A little remorse because I believe Sanders gives the Rockets all the tools we need and are lacking on this team. A running shotblocking rebounding big who can play defense and score down low. And I don’t believe he is that much of a project and that far behind Patterson right now.

And I am not alone in my opinion of the man. The NBA’s best excutive of the year, John Hammond said those exact same things about Sanders. The Rockets next choice if Patterson wasn’t there was Sanders. Yes Riley reported that 14 of the first 15 picks were on the Rockets board which pretty much means Sanders was one of the Rockets first 14 choices. He could have been the 7th choice on the Rockets board for all we know.

Like I said earlier I think Sanders brings what the Rockets need from a big more than any other player not named Favors or Cousins and that’s rebounding, shotblocking and the ability to defend down low. But he wasn’t our pick and Patterson was and he is now a Rocket and I am happy we have him and will cheer from this day forward. Of course I will be secretly watching Sanders from afar because I am now a fan of a kid I knew nothing about 3 months ago. Anyway that's all I have to say on the subject and I can't wait for the summer league games. Go Rockets Go PP

    1. Teams stay away from Sanders but not Patterson- I bet that has zero to do with the surrounding cast they played with. I can't remember exactly who PP's teammates were, but I think I remember a few of them being pretty good.

    2. In 3 seasons at Kentucky, Patterson never shot below 57.4%. So yes, 55% is nice and all, but its worse than PP's worst season in FG%.

    3. You used the Pacers drafting George as an example earlier. Who the hell says we should be using a similar strategy as the Pacers??? Have you seen them? The one pick they have had over the last half decade that's been worth a dang is Granger, who was maybe the SAFEST PICK, of the entire first round that year.

Lastly, I am not sure I have seen it mentioned much, if at all, in this thread. Patterson aaveraged 18 and 9 shooting 60% as a Soph. Had he come out last season he was DEAD LOCK top 10 draft pick. For the sake of his team he deferred touches to the #1 and #5 picks in this year's draft. He is a guy that has quite a bit of upside in addition to being a player that you would consider to be a "safe" pick.
