We are not building our team around Patterson. Let's get that straight first of all. He will be a part of the team. Morey still has plans to 'swing for the fences' in FA this summer. Patterson could be included in one of those deals as a asset. Look beyond just the 14th pick. We want to build a good, deep team for years to come. Good pick for us.

I get what your saying, but why bring up Ed Davis? Toronto nabbed him before us.

In two years we'll be linking this thread.

We should have drafted Larry Sanders over Patrick Patterson.

    Ha! :p

Just because the op was wrong about a previous player has no bearing on whether or not he is right or wrong on this one.

    Trust me.....I know...lol

I think we're trying to be in "win now" mode, and Patterson can play at the NBA level "now."

    It's a good pick. I ain't agin' it.

Yep this is a guy that fits on the floor with Yao, and without Yao.

The Rox are stradling that fence for one more year to find out if Yao is gonna be healthy.

Why did we pick an undersized point guard when we already have Mike James and Rafer Alston. It doesn't make sense. Is Morey an idiot? Why did we then get an undersized PF that doesn't rebound well?

    Sound familiar?

    I don't really understand this.

Pretty much every single thing we read which we dont have a ton of reason to doubt at this point indicates taht Patterson was the best available player (6th overall) on the Rockets draft board, so accordingly they thought him a good value at 14. So, following hte approach of most GM's in most sports, they picked the B.A.P. End of story.

An attempt to read the tea leaves otherwise is probably just a bunch of silly wanking.

If anything, I would think Dorsey more than McGrady influenced how the Rockets evaluated Patterson, especially how much the Rockets placed value on such qualities as work ethic, character, and BB-IQ.

The Rockets were impressed with Dorsey's raw physical talent - his upside - but were unhappy with his work ethic the first year, and after that, Dorsey just couldn't figure out the Adelman's system enough to crack the rotation. In other words, raw talent could not overcome the lack of the "intangibles."

1.) Tmac set us back five years? What? Despite our numerous first round flameouts, we were a contender when he was here and not when he left.

2.) Patterson is a late lottery guy which the Rockets are really happy about, how about we give him a year or two before passing judgement.

3.) I think at some point, we are going to lose Hayes, Battier or Scola, who are our brainy character glue guys. I see a Patterson as a guy who can swoop in and fill that role eventually. I have no problem with that.

    1. The jazz "gambled" by taking the best white person available. He also doesnt have a "championship heart" since he has no championship on his resume.

    2. We arent placing all our bets on patterson like the texans did with carr. Patterson is either trade fodder or a bench/role player. He looks more like Al Horford to me, but i dont think we will rely on him that heavily.

You're abslolutely right. Eveyone has an opiniong including you and him
(and me). None of us have NBA credibility to be believed, so it's pretty funny looking back on these types of proclamations. JCDenton anyone?

How convenient you live at the RIGHT NOW part. At the time Joey Dorsey had a couple of solid games with the team. IMO he looked like a beast in the paint. Blocking shots, rebounding at a high rate. I think he got 12 rebounds in less than 20 minutes causing Adelman to say this,

"Joey is our best rebounder and he's physical," Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. "I planned on going with our regular rotation but giving him a shot at it in the second quarter. He did a nice job and kept going. He's a very good rebounder and he takes up a lot of space in there. If he just plays smart he's going to be a big help for us."

At the same time Hill was stuck on the Knicks bench with a lousy team. He was their 8th pick and he couldn't get any minutes. He also seemed to have a bad attitude. I thought the Rockets needed some muscle up front to compete with the elite teams. Dorsey rpresented that IMO more than Hill. Even Sacramento said Dorsey was also a big par of thier plans, not just Landry. But Dorsey remained Dorsey with his wacko atitude and didn't show up to practice. ANd Sac released him. Even then Morey wanted to resign him toHouston. Meanwhile Hill showed quite a bit of improvement. And had more skills than I previous thought. He is still a project IMO but he does have some athleticism and if he can add a few pounds of muscle, he could be alot better than I ever thought.

So I will admit I got that one wrong Hill is a better prospect than Dorsey right now. But at the time it wasn't so clear and Dorsey had done things in the league that Hill had not. As for patterson I am not saying he is a flop. On the contrary. I think PP will have a long NBA career and contribute in many ways like Battier. But I just don't see a star him. He will be a good player for the Rockets and contribute right away. And yes it is true I thought Sanders has a lot more upside. I said I would be okay if we picked PP over Sanders. And I mostly am. it's just that I stayed all night waiting for the Rockets to do something else. ANd the best Morey can say is they wanted cash and picks to buy a pick. Yet Cuban just paid cash to get Dominique Jones. So that pissed me off a little bit. And I am a bit annoyed with Morey right now. The key word is RIGHT NOW!

I don't understand how Patrick Patterson is a swing for the fences pick. Everyone who talks about him talks about his NBA readiness but limited ceiling. Is it possible you pulled an Alanis Morissette and used a phrase you don't really understand?

    Isn't it ironic, dontcha think

    OMR,

But who was left on the baord that was screaming "STAR"?

I think swinging for the fences below the 4th pick in the draft is hit or miss...why not take a bunch of quality assets, and then flip some of them for a star player that is proven later?
