Very well said, TL. If more republicans were like you, we'd probably all get along a little better. Unfortunately, there are some here who are typical of the louder branches of your party. They give you a bad name. We've got them, too. They're all pretty damn annoying.
the biggest waste in spending comes from paying the deficit on our debt. It's almost 15% of the budget and people get absolutely nothing in return. Imagine if that was eliminated the budget would automatically drop 15%. To talk about govt. waste but not want to address the interest on the debt is a joke.
If that angers you then your patriotism is incredibly shallow. I don't know many people who put their hands on their hearts during the national anthem. My nephew who is a marine and served in Iraq never put his hand on his heart, during the anthem. My father who was WWII vet never put his hand on his heart during the anthem. We all stand and remove our hats if we are wearing them. Obama used to wear the lapel pin until people started using it as a weapon to bully people so he stopped. If a little pin is your measure of patriotism, then indeed I have little regard for your patriotism.
just to be clear, supporting the war on terror, or the war in iraq, or however one chooses to describe it, does not make one a war monger. there were legitimate reasons for deposing saddam, and even more legitimate reasons for staying and finishing the job. and mccain is right, the question is not what we should have done in 2003, but what we should do in 2009. we have a moral obligation to the people of iraq, and we must stay and support them through this transition.
Reagen started his political career as a Democrat and switched to Republican after JFK was elected. Reagen was Governor of one of the largest states in the country - California for 8 years, ran for president against Ford who was seen as the more moderate Republican in 1976 before eventually winning in 1980. He had WAY more experience than Obama or ANY of our former presidents in the last 2 decades.
merely running for president isn't really that much more experience. Obama ran for a number of office a number of times, and has served in the Senate which Reagan never did.
Well if we are talking about people's ability to judge situations, then whether we should have gone in 2003 is certainly important. There were no legitimate reasons for military action in Iraq. The question about 2009 is do we want too people who laked the judgment to make the correct decision in 2003 making the decisions for 2009.
depending on how it was set up national daycare might not be a bad thing. Studies show the effectiveness of daycare, so there is no real arguing about daycare being effective, it's only who should run it, and how. But even if they did, it would be better if the program was paid for by not wasting money on interest than taking it from NASA, correct?
I understand that, but I do believe the capital gains tax is a very big issue to the republican party, probably more so than any of the stances they take.
I believe running the state of Caifornia is way more experience than a Senator from Illinois. Not only that, he helped run Goldwater's campaign, ran his own campaign the first time - and lost, before eventually winning in 1980. So yea, he is WAY more experienced than Obama. Obama wasn't even Senator for too long. Reagan had over 20 years of political experience before he became President. Obama had 2 years of US Senator? Do you even know how he GOT to the Illinois senate? Why don't you read about that? He basically took over a position from Illinois Senator Alice Palmer in which he promised wouldn't run against. She was running for US Congress at the time but didn't relinquish her seat in the Illinois senate. She lost her bid at running for Congress but when she returned, Obama decided to go after her seat. Once he got elected to the Illinois Senate he tried to and was unsuccessful at trying to get a House of Representative seat against a 4 term incumbent- Bobby Rush. He served as a Chairman of the Health and Human Services Commitee when the Democrats regained the majority in the Illinois Senate. Then he ran for US Senate and resigned the Illinois senate in 1994. Shortly soon after, Obama's wife becomes the Vice President for Community and external affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals. This was about the same time the Obama's were changing health care laws in Illinois to benefit their lobbyists. So is this the kind of experience we need as President? Here is the story to read in full from the Chicago Tribune to show you how he backstabbed Alice Palmer to win his seat. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-070403obama-ballot,1,57567.story Not only did he force Alice Palmer to quit, he got all the other Democratic opponents off the ballot by using the best attorney and doing his shady politics. This is an interesting Read indeed. You want to compare Obama to Ronald Reagan? Knock yourself out.
Obama ever been governor of California? Oh, wait... you've been educated by others already a few posts back. I digress. Refute, or don't respond. TIA You guys want it one way... but can't take turn about, or the facts... or even an opinion for that matter.
