Per Hillboy "This is nothing! I remember a time when things were so bad, you could get a free ticket to Rockets games simply by buying and bringing an empty Rainbow bread bag to the Summit. I remember when things were so bad in the early days at Hofheinz Pavilion there were 200 people in the stands. I remember when they used the number one pick in the draft for John Lucas who cocained himself (and very nearly the Rockets franshise) out of the league. I remember when they traded Houston homeboy Elvin Hayes to the Washington Bullets only to watch him win an NBA championship. I remember when they basically let Moses (4-5-4) Malone walk away to Philly thereby finally giving Dr. J (Julius Erving) his only championship. I remember when Mitchell Wiggins and Lewis Lloyd also did the cocaine crash and burn thereby destroying the Rockets' season and setting this franchise back years. Finally, I remember that Christmas season when all Rockets' fans prayed for Rudy T's life after Kermit Washington almost killed him on the court in Los Angeles. So, as you all can see, a 10-19 record, while serious, does not qualify as the "worst" of times for a Rockets fan." Thanks Hillboy. that really put things in perspective. You have been a fan longer than me- but I have been a loyal fan since Hakeem was drafted in June 1984.... __________________
Ditto. Seriously though, I haven't been around that long as a Rockets fan, but after reading Hillboy's post, I can't imagine what this board would be like if we were reliving those events he mentioned -- those were MUCH worse than anything we've ever been through in the past decade plus. Thanks Hillboy for putting things in perspective. And no, this is NOT the worse time being a Rox fan, because if you can't take the bad with the good, then you're really not a fan and you will never be able to fully appreciate success unless you go through struggles first. We're in this for the long haul, boys, so man up and stop whining...
But we still had Hakeem and he was night in and night out absolutely awesome to watch...In fact, he was for me the greatest player ever to watch!
This is not even close to being the 'worst time..' Hang in there, young 'uns! We've got lots of hoop to play!
I've been really disappointed by the rockets this season, just like everyone else. But I haven't been coming here because the holiday season was incredibly busy, not because of the losing. I haven't been able to watch a single NBA game or even download one of R2K's highlights, and the highlights are usually what I enjoy most, win or lose. I think a lot of others have been gone for the same reason. I have a sneaking suspiscion, though, that once the rockets go on a ten game winning streak people will "suddenly" have time to post again.
By "worse" time, I mean most disappointing time. There were worse record in the Rocket history but I think this season so far is the most disappointing. Remember we were so damn confident and laughing at the Mavs and thinking the Griz had no chance to beat us and we thought we were the Spurs' only threat in the west?
Yeah but you can predict injuries. If the injury bug wouldn't have hit us the way it did we would have turned a massive corner after the long road trip.
Worst days, hands down were the years just prior to Ralph and Hakeem (how the hell do you think we got in the coin toss for the first picks?). Those were the days when the stars of the team were Hall of Famers like Joe Bryant (Kobe's daddy), Wally Walker, and World B. Free. Dark days... Give me the Hofheinz days anytime over that period. At least then you could get in for $2 or a UH student ID.
