of course he did, and at the time it was a good choice... untill mo went down and then we got yao... now those big payouts are not really hurting us, but they are not helping either... but rices contract will end i think the year after next... and thats a good chunk of change for a piece of the puzzle

if thats the case then every rocket outside the players need to be fired.... but we dont know the details to judge either way.. i wonder what would happen if moses just show up at a rocket practice unanounced??? then that would show us he wants to help and not worry about the money..

    Why do you say this?

Cuban is a marketing genius. You think Cuban just spends money without making money? Wrong! Mav's revenue was way below that of the Rox before Cuban bought the team. Nobody was interested in the Mavs. Then Cuban turned it around and marketed the Mav so well. I believe Mav's revenue is among the highest in the league at this moment, more than 100 mil. That's why Cuban can afford to spend all the money.

So why fans interest in the Rox is low in Houston? Well, because the owner does not market it enough ;) Without the money, it is difficult to do things.

It's been a LONG time, so I don't know where to go to site sources, but way back in the day I seem to remember Olajuwon and Dawson regularly having after-hours sessions working on things like footwork, positioning, and post up moves.

Toast you are right! Now CD is unable to take on any coaching duties due to his eye problems. He was the only big man coach hired by the Rox.

    Toast,

Ok, but who replaced CD when he moved up to the front office?

The teams are getting younger and younger, and much more teaching is necessary.

I think the Rocks should have a big mans coach, a passing coach, and a rebounding coach.....at least WORK on the fundementals.

Exactly! CD was replaced by Rudy's band of game video tape breakdown people. While I am sure their input is great, it just seems as though the Rockets younger players would benefit more from legitimate coachs that have been there before and can teach them their trade.

    sun 12,

You're right, Cuban is a marketing genius, but he'll also do anything to add the right extra player, and hire mega coaches....anything to give his team an edge. He even hired retired officials to teach his players the "ropes."

But the reason the Mavs are worth so much more is their play & winning %. They are absolutely the most fun team to watch in the NBA (along with the Kings)- they push the ball incessantly, make the extra pass, and hit you with an offensive barrage game in and game out. Mavs are the anti-Rockets when it comes to team play and sharing the ball. No one wants to watch incessant iso street ball.

That's what sells, & fills the stands and the airways;)

You guys DON'T think Rudy has "been there before?" Let's see, his number is retired in both Michigan and Houston.

But DD, I do take your point. As head coach, I doubt Rudy has time to give 1-on-1 attention to any of his players. Though if he did, I imagine it'd be with the big fella and not with one of our guards.

Toast, re-read my post, I didn't say RUDY hand't been there before, but his assistant coaches, the video tape breakdown people. This thread is more about the ASSISTANT coaches (or lack thereof) than of Rudy himself as a coach.

Larry Smith won't ever make it to the hall of fame, but he's had experience ... playing with guys like Dream & Sampson to boot!
