Just a thought that a 3rd team might want to give up a 1st for Brooks (he was the most improved player after all and would hold that value). Denver would have no need for Brooks if Billups is still on the roster. They could potentially do a 3 team trade and land 2 2011 1sts (along with their own high 2011 pick) and an extra lottery pick in 2012.

    Denver Sends: 1. Melo
Denver Gets from Houston: 1. Battier, 2. Hill, 3. Jeffries, 4. 2011 Rockets 1st round pick (with option to swap with NY), 5. 2012 Knicks 1st round pick, 6. maximum cash consideration.
Denver Gets from 3rd team: 1. 2011 1st round pick. 2. Expiring Contract that makes deal work.

Houston sends: (See above to Denver)
Houston Gets from Denver: 1. Melo

Third team sends: 1. Expiring contract to Denver. 2. 2012 1st round pick.
Third team gets: 1. Aaron Brooks.

Pure fantasy speculation... but just a thought.

Do the Nets and Knicks have to match Anthony's salary coming back? That might be a sticking point, especially for the Nets.

    THIS.

The Nets expirings for next year are key players. Troy Murphy their biggest expiring is their starting PF, coming off the books at 11.5 mil. Other than that they have a total of 7 expirings for a total of around 9 Million. Mainly scrubs and older players other than Lopez and Humphries. Yes it is a decent chunk of cash to save but it would leave NJ giving up 5-6 players most likely. While Favors is very attractive, I don't see the Nets giving him up at all. He is very fan liked already. Plus the Nets have a new coach, many new FA aquisitions, the amount of players NJ would likely have to give up to create cap relief, the depleted, young and inexperienced team would unlikely be a smart decision for Melo to go to if he would like to win.

The Rockets have two big contracts that they could be up to create an instant 12 million, in Jeffries and Battier. With Battier being bought out and returning to the Rockets. With the addition of two young stars, Hill (or PP) and Budinger, AND NY 2011 pick and Rockets 2013 first, along with the TE. The Rockets could maintain a team of

    Brooks/ Lowry
    Martin/ Lee
    Melo/Battier/Harris
    Scola/ Hill (or PP)
    Yao/ Miller

Meanwhile the Nuggets get very young, save a boatload of money and one great pick (will be better for DEN with Melo not joining with Amare and CP in NY) and one higher end first. Still a great all around trade for both teams.

    Make it happen Morey.

Yeah, I don't see Denver having any interest in AB.

And I don't see Kevin Martin and Melo existing in the same back court together.

Maybe Courtney Lee is penciled in as our starting SG? Would be a nice fit. Can spot up & shoot, and can play defense, which is exactly what we'd need with AB and Melo knifing into the lanes.

We'll see. Way too much speculation right now.

Would be great but salaries wouldn't match and don't think you can move the TE like this. Shane and JJ would almost HAVE to be included as salary filler with Bud and Jordan along with picks.

Well tweak it a bit, atleast that being the core. Meant to put the TE in a separate trade. Oops haha got ahead of myself. Anyways, we could take on some salary for them while using the TE.

I think the conversation starts with Martin + Air Bud + picks (and Jeffries, etc. to make salaries work).

I doubt that NJ lets go of Lopez if only because I don't think that Melo would want to be in NJ without a decent C. Can't rape NJ's big men then expect Melo to sign there and they're nowhere deep enough that they have other attractive pieces to package while keeping the team competitve. It's why he's leaving Denver in the 1st place. I think he's looking to compete now.

As for NY, they admittedly have some interesting pieces they can throw into the mix. Gallinari, Randolph, Chandler, Azubuike, and possibly Curry's expiring as a filler to match the numbers. Nugs get their nice young players and an inflated filler to match contract while NY also gets their 2nd star to play along side Amare and unloads Curry who isn't expected to get any minutes this season. I'm not so sure though about the tradability(?) of the former GS boys so soon though after their signing. Looks like they're in the hunt as well.

    Nugs to Knicks Trade Possibility

It could look something like that. Denfinitely attractive enough for Denver to consider against us.

Birdman, anyone??? I'd be down for that, in the random trade thread I came up with a plausible way to get Birdman if Melo goes to NYC but hey why not both in two separate deals...NICE!

this is from espn insider updated today

Time to add another team to Carmelo Anthony's list.

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported on Wednesday the Melo is open to signing a long-term deal with Houston, if the team can offer Denver an "acceptable trade package," according to multiple league sources.

Mannix also confirms the Nets as a destination Melo feels the same way about -- a team we've already discussed in conjunction with him on Wednesday.

    To the Trade Machine, friends!

Trevor Ariza would have been a decent choice to send back here, but he was just shipped to New Orleans last week.

But if Denver is just looking for money relief for Melo, Houston could be the best team for them, as they have a few larger expiring deals.

    To the Trade Machine!

Anthony for Shane Battier (in last year of deal paying $7.3 million) and Jared Jeffries (in last year of deal paying $6.8 million) would work.

The Rockets also have the rights to the Knicks' first-round picks in 2011 (top-1 protected) and 2012 (top-five protected), so they can add in some draft picks to sweeten the pot.

While the Rockets might not offer the most attractive package talent wise, if Denver is looking for some money relief and the option to rebuild a bit via draft picks, Houston is a pretty solid option for the Nuggets at this point.

    Melo's suitors

New York. His reported preferred destination. Packages around Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph/Wilson Chandler and a draft pick have been rumored.

Chicago. The Bulls could return Luol Deng to the Nuggets, perhaps the best talent they could get to replace Melo at small forward.

New Orleans. They could make a play in an effort to keep Chris Paul around.
Orlando. It's reportedly another preferred destination of Anthony's.

Houston. The Rockets can offer money relief and draft picks.

with my proposed trade we could have the potential to be a very well rounded team with a little bit of everything, experience, fire, defense, offense, youth and plenty of depth:

P.G.-Kyle Lowry-Age 24- Defensive minded and great passer
S.G.-Courtney Lee-Age 24- Defensive upgrade over martin/little downgrade on offense
S.F.-Carmelo Anthony-Age 26- The missing link to a Houston Rocket Title
P.F.- Luis Scola-Age 30- The motor that never stops
    C-Yao Ming-Age 29- 7 ft 6 in of pure awesomeness(if healthy)

    Bench-Shane Battier-31-,Chase Budinger-22-, Chuck Hayes-27-, Brad Miller-34-, Pattrick Patterson-21-,Jermaine Taylor-23, Chris Anderson-32.

    Depth Chart
P.G-Kyle Lowry/Ishmael Smith(Pretty sure the rockets signed him)
    S.G-Courtney Lee/Jermaine Taylor
    S.F-Carmelo Anthony/Shane Battier/Chase Budinger
    P.F-Luis Scola/Chris Anderson/Pattrick Patterson
    C-Yao Ming/Brad Miller/Chuck Hayes

    What do you guys think?
Of course this all depends on the shear fact that melo wants to come to houston!

The Nuggets are $11,843,763 over the tax.

    Melo + Billups
    for→ Brooks + Patterson + Hill + Battier + Hayes + Jeffries + Harris (non-guaranteed) + Johnson (n.g.)
    + NY 2011 & 2012 Pick + HOU 2011 Pick

    Nuggets reduce payroll by $7,579,051.

The Nuggets currently have 12 players signed. As this trade would leave them with 16 guaranteed contracts a third team may need to be involved. That could benefit all 3 teams:

Pacers looking for a PF, have TE to absorb Hayes's contract. Nuggets cut further salary. Rockets could ask for the rights to Magnum Rolle from the Pacers as they'll be in need of min contract big men.

So if Hayes is moved to the Pacers.

The Nuggets reduce payroll by $9,551,551.

Leaves Denver with only $2,292,212 to cut before the trade deadline.

    Brooks, Lawson, Carter (exp),
    Afflalo, JR (exp), Jeffries (exp),
    Harrington, Battier (expiring), Balkman
    Kenyon (exp), Patterson, Andersen
    Nene, Hill, Shelden (exp)

    Billups, Lowry
    Martin, Lee, Taylor
    Melo, Budinger
Scola, Rolle (via IND), Johnson (re-signed after waived by DEN)
    Miller, Yao

It comes down to these things
Does Melo want to stay West and face kobe? Or go east and face Miami?

Does Melo feel we're better then the knicks or nets?

Can we offer anything good for Melo?

    Will he sign an extension?
