Is Morey's package for Denver better than the Knicks' or Nets'?

I know people are excited that Carmelo Anthony is at least rumored to be interested in Houston and I hate to be a wet blanket. But one thing people kind of assumed is that Rockets have the best "assets" to offer.

Is it really true? For example, the other two teams mentioned in the same SI article are NY and NJ. NY is said to offer Gallinari and NJ probably will have to offer Favors or Lopez since these are their most valuable pieces. It would seem that these guys are better than anything that the Rockets can offer, considering age and contract.

Gallinari, Lopez and Favors have realistic propsects of being multi-time All Stars. I don't think our younger guys are of that quality.

A package of Brooks, Hill/Budinger, Expirings, TE, NY picks is better than anything NY or NJ can offer.

Whether Melo is worth it is another question. But we certainly have the package.

I still remember him willing his Syracuse team to the NCAA title as a freshman. I can't help but think he's got it in him to do the same on this level with the right pieces around him.

What about the NY picks? Those get more valuable if we get Melo and he is not going to NY...

This is where the knick picks help us and if Denver believes they can pick up a lotto pick with it, then still pick up even more cheap, young talent.

On top of that we have the TE to eat a bad contract.

So I say while favors would be a great trade for Denver, Houston can offer a better package IMO. But it all depends on exactly what Denver is going to rebuild and if they will trade with a team in the same conference.

Budinger + Hill + Battier is better than anyone can do. We would probably throw in Jeffries too because of his monstrous contract.

Why the hell does Melo want to join the nets, a D-League team?

Our defense is gone already. We are praying Yao with his 1 foot can anchor the defense.

KM + AB in the starting lineup.......Melo at least plays a little better D than both of them combined.

Let's just bring back all the Chris Bosh threads and have Clutch do a 'find and replace' search on Bosh for Carmelo

Kidding. I wonder how many people would be upset if the Rockets traded their assets for Carmelo as the main prize.

I would welcome Melo, and yes, I agree we have the best package to offer Denver. young talent, potential, and expirings

They have value. However, they are probably projected to be either late lotto or in the teens at best.

I would rather take 1 great prospect (Favors) than 2 good-but-not-quite as valuable pieces (like Budinger + picks). I mean, NJ wouldn't trade Favors for Budinger + picks, would they?

But Isn't Battier to Melo is a downgrade on the defense? [IMG]

IF the rumor is true, what you said is what i am worrying about. knicks and nets are not ready yet for this year playoff based on how their current rosters are constructed. they may not worry about how much they are going to be worse after trading their some core pieces from their core groups. well, rox is in different category. they want to win now. can morey come up COMPETITIVE package w/o hurting rox this year?

I think the answer is 'YES'.

If the nets gave up too much, they would be a very very very bad team. I don't think Melo would be interested in playing for such a bad team.

Melo gives us a far better chance of winning a championship.
