This is a Jerry West moment for Morey.

If he makes a deal that hurts us in the summer of 2011 for signing free agents, than I will really lose respect for him becaue nothing he can do now will help us win a ring before then.

There's no shortage of teams who want to clear cap space Morey is holding a get out of jail free card he'd better do something good to help a talent strapped Rockets club compete.

Playing time doesn't make bad draft picks good.

If playing time turns draft picks into studs, then what happened to other rookies who got more playing time than Brooks and Landry in their rookie seasons?

Here are some guys that were drafted higher and aren't studs.

    Sean Williams
    Daequan Cook
    Nick Young
    Jared Dudley
    Spencer Hawes
    Jason Smith
    Arron Afflalo

Really? You don't think adding Andre Iguodala, Samuel Dalembert and Yao Ming to our current team would make us a top 5 team?

Morey traded cash and a 2nd-round pick for Andersen, an adequate backup center. How does that equate to failure??

Top 5 does not equal champion.

You can go for an also-ran. I want a ring.

CD was a great assistant coach, but I NEVER thought he was a great GM. DM is the best GM the team has had since the championship years. He may not be perfect, but he is not going to bring in Moochie Norris, Kelvin Cato, or a retirement village full of ole Knicks.

    I don't think so either.

Lakers, Celtics, Cavaliers, Magic, Nuggets, Mavericks and Spurs would still be better than the Rockets. Ariza/Iggy combo doesn't look great to me. Neither of them can consistently score enough to keep the defense honest.

I disagree. Iggy and dalembert makes the rockets a legit contender. They would surpass the mavs, spurs, magic, celtics, and probably even the nuggets and depending on what the cavs do them also. Defense would be able to lock teams down truthfully. It would be very hard to score on the rockets and ths they wouldn't have to be a high scoring team.

wow how can you guys not think that brooks/iggy/ariza(battier)/landry/yao isnt a championship squad?

thats a better team than brooks/battier/artest/scola/yao and that team won game 1 in LA ,if yao didnt get injured, and we had (iggy/ariza) instead of (artest/battier) we win that series and the ring last year

you have to remember that artest was HORRIBLE and battier couldnt defend Kobe yet we took them to game 7... imagine a healthy yao + igoudala +ariza ,

we have a chance to be BETTER than 2008-2009 if we make this trade with iggy.

butler is injury prone and amare doesnt like houston supposidly. iggy is our only chance to get better

Not if you have to let Scola and Lowry go.

You have to take into account the loss of Scola and Lowry, also.

    Yao/Dalembert
    Landry/Hayes(ick)
    Ariza/Shane
    Iggy/Budinger
    Brooks/Conroy(ick)

I don't understand the complaints. DM and the Rockets front office have displayed just about every trait a fan would want to see. Sure, Dorsey and Taylor (maybe) were busts. So what? After all the value guys we've stolen late in the draft, fussing about the few that didn't work out is silly. Most teams would kill to have our drafting track record.

With Artest trade, yes, we gave up some value, but the front office correctly perceived that the move would put us into contention. Cavs, Lakers, Spurs, Magic, and C's are all well above the tax threshold. The smart thing to is put together a solid squad while remaining under the LT, and then make a move to acquire the big piece that puts you over the top when you feel you've got a legit chance. Which is exactly what we're doing.

As for the Tmac thing, nobody's exactly covered in glory, but I don't see what they could have done differently. His problems were not Les, DM, or Rick getting revenge. He was medically, physically unable to compete. This is a business, and anyone who honestly believes we'd have stashed him on the bench if he was able to be a productive player isn't thinking very hard.

Morey's reputation is not on the line. Tracy was the one who couldn't handle being a mere rotation player after coming off surgery.

Nasty surprise for T-Mac, VC, SF3, AI: time marches on and so does the league. Morey will go on to do other big deals.
