I personally don't believe that Scola and Brooks will be here long term if we acquire Bosh. If we had Bosh then I don't believe that we'd pay a lot of money for Scola if he's playing limited minutes. As far as Brooks, I just don't believe that he's here long term. It's very possible that he would be included in a deal to get Bosh. Even if he's not in the deal, Brooks is primarily a scorer and if we have Bosh, Yao and Martin then I see them brining in a PG that distributes the ball better and plays better defense. Brooks can certainly score but his primary strength (scoring) is redundant if we had that lineup. Brooks' stock is high right now so I think you could see Morey try to flip him for a different style PG (Ricky Rubio maybe?). To your point though, all of the things that you mentioned are valid points that have to be taken into consideration. Of course, "making your team better" involves more than pure talent. If you acquire a player who makes your talent level go up but destroys your finances then you didn't really make the team better. Morey and the Rockets have to decide if Bosh makes them a better team (both talent and finance-wise) and if so then you make the deal because you always make the team better if you can. If you determine that Bosh would upgrade the talent but kill you financially, then you don't make the deal because you aren't making the team better.
Great post and excellent observations. I think DM is all over the phones in a Brooks and possibly Llull and picks for Rubio type deal... Maybe even Jordan Hill...
I totally agree with you.If we really focus our attention on Bosh,we have give up some players.First,it's hard to persuade Scola to be a backup with a medium salary. Then our guards do not fit for the new team.Martin and Brooks are both good scorers and weak defenders. We have to give up one of them and find another appropriate guard to come if we want to play in the west final. So I think the best plan is to give up Brooks. He is not a good PG when Yao is on the court.Speed is his best weapon but that's unnecessary for Yao and Bosh. But I admit that it's hard to find another PG that fits the system.Maybe Rubio,I am not sure.
It's not that hard to persuade Scola, apparently. Mission accomplished. Here's Scola's interview and him saying that he would be a backup. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=186141
Scola was playing 30/mpg, when we had Yao and Landry. Scola played more, after Yao went down. When Yao comes back, Scola can still play 30 mpg. There are 48 mpg at PF and 48 mpg at C for 96 min total. It's unlikely the Rockets will play Yao 40 mpg after coming back from a major surgery. If Zydrunas didn't play 40 mpg, coming back from this surgery. 34 mpg Bosh 25 mpg Yao 59 mpg total 96 mpg - 59 mpg = 37 minutes. We need somebody to play the 37 minutes. I suppose it could be Hayes and Andersen, but I think Morey would prefer Scola and keep Hayes and Andersen for spot minutes.
LOL!!! You would make a good stand up comic  A good GM, like any good businessman, will have / do both. On one hand, he will push the team towards a certain direction / pathway in the future. On the other hand, it would be colossally stupid not to take advantage of golden opportunities that are out there. Well, it is your mere opinion that the Rockets lacked a backup C in the past years. Most of us do not share your opinion. And from the look of things in this thread, your opinion doesn't carry much weight either  It is his business if he wants to go after Bosh, not yours. You are not the GM of the team. Is Bosh the player the Rockets need the most? Well, I don't know what is your mere opinion on what player the Rockets need the most, but to most of us, Bosh would be a significant upgrade and would kill several birds with one stone. Is he the best player that the Rockets are able to acquire? Well, since you can't suggest a better alternative, I dare say that your thoughts have no merit in this matter then
Maybe things are like what you said.Scola is already 30 and there're just 4-5 teams need a starting PF.Also there're better PFs in the market. That will be all reasons for Scola to stay. But I think Scola deserves at least 8M per season. That will be a problem.
I think both, lets see the tmac trade, the knicks wanted to get rid off the contract of jeffries, and morey looked the opportunity to trade tmac and get some nice assets, (at first the best if the trade with the knicks was the draft picks, then we saw that hill and even jeffries played well) and then he wasnt too happy because he wasnt improving the team that much, so he searched for a third team, that wanted to make a trade and had a player that Morey had interest on. So I think is both. 1) Improve the team by getting martin 2) he took advantage of the circumstances that the knicks wanted to clear cap space. And I think every businessman is an opportunist, they take advantage of the circumstances and they sell their stuff.
Scola isn't suited to playing center in some matchups but I do agree that Scola could still get minutes. The issue to me though wasn't the minutes it's the salary. If the Rockets acquire Bosh then I don't believe that they will be willing to pay Scola's market value if he's not starting.
