There are teams in the NBA that get the bad luck we do. People getting injured at the worst possible times and all that. Usually when a team does that they become the like Clippers or the 76ers or the Timberwolves and become mediocre for 5-10 years in a row.

    Not Houston.

Imagine if we hadn't made half of these moves. Imagine if we didn't get Scola in a steal, imagine if we didn't draft Brooks or Landry. We would be ****ed right now.

You can't blame Houston's lack of success the past few years on Morey.

I could go in depth talking about how blindly ignorant this statement is piece by piece, or I could show you this:

Let me make sure that I have this straight. The Rockets were without their top two players who were making a combined $40 Million dollars and we didn't make the playoffs so Morey is a failure? Now we're poised to leap back into contention next season but all that matter is last year?

Once you knew that Yao was out for the season and that McGrady wouldn't be back for a long time (if ever), what were your expectations? At the start of the season guys like Charles Barkley were predicting less than 30 wins for us. The theme of practically every article about the Rockets was the "Overachieving Rockets". Based on what we had available, we had a great season and we are in a position to be really good next year. Is Prichard a bad GM because Portland had a worse season than the year before?

I'll ask yet one more time, what moves do you think the Rockets should make instead of pursuing Chris Bosh. It's pointless to complain about a possible move without offering an alternative. If Chris Bosh isn't the answer, then tell us what is the answer.

Yao was out of full season, but Tmac wasn't. Before the trade deadline, the rockets were within the playoff race. If the trade worked out, the rockets should have made playoffs.

You need answer me first, why do you think the rockets need Bosh? Will he help the rockets win the title? Will he make the rockets more national TV appearance? Will he help the rockets sell more tickets?

As a raptor, Bosh never passed the 1st round, raptors games were seldom shown on national TV, and they didn't sell more tickets because of him.

I just hope that you could post more to increase the post quality of this side. As for Morey, all world knows he is one of the best GM, I do not know what OP is thinking or talking, but but nothing is surprising from him.

You can't be this ****ing stupid.
T-Mac wasn't out of the full season? Huh? He played a grand total of 6 games with us, was shipped to NY, and then was revealed to the entire world, that hey, Morey and Adelman were right, McGrady really was washed up and couldn't play worth a damn.
We had been falling out some time before the trade, largely because of injuries, largely because teams were adjusting to the Rocket's unorthodox style. It's possible we were out even at the time of the deadline, I don't remember one way or another. And if you think that the Rockets were making the playoffs with Landry instead of Kevin Martin and Jordan Hill (not to mention that are key pieces being thrown around in any Bosh trade), I can't help you.

Yes. And I will once again cite Gasol for your "But Bosh never got the Raptors past the first round!" Gasol never won a game in the first round, and that was with a somewhat better cast and a massively superior coach.
I mean, what is this crap? If we can't get Howard or Durant or Lebron, we should give up and not go after anyone at all?

Who the f cares? I'll ask you again, would you prefer us to be more like the Astros who did follow your so wise approach?

It's nice how you're ignoring the fact that we had to work 2 new players into our defensive and offensive schemes along with a slew of D leaguers while our team suffered a barrage of injuries to all our key defensive players. All of which is happening without a legit center.

Also, a large amount of the value in that trade came from draft picks and young players who obviously arne't going to turn us into contenders in one season, and its those same assets and young players that could land us Bosh. Think of it this way. If we do get Bosh, then we'll essentially have traded Landry for Martin, and McGrady's corpse for Bosh. If you can't see how much of an amazing turn around that would be then you're a fool not worth talking to.

I'll answer the latter parts first. Yes on both counts, but who gives a cuss? I care about a winning team or at least a team that is setting itself up for future success instead of doing everything it can to stay relevant in the present damning the future. See: Bobcats, Charlotte; Astros, Houston

The first part, yes, he will help us win a title. He gives us better rebounding, more height with which to bother wing players coming into the paint, and an elite scorer who's style of play is made for Adelman's offense.

Answer me this, how would we NOT be contenders?

I have to say that this is an excuse. Since people here like to talk about Gasol, you should know that the lakers made the finals after they acquired Gasal in middle of season. BTW, their center (Baynum) was down in that season as well.

In fact, the trade hasn't made yet. You don't know what assets the rockets need to trade for Bosh.

What's your evidence of that you think Bosh will help us win a title? He never passed the 1st round before. You can say Gasol never made out of 1st either before. But, the lakers have Kobe (a franchise player), the rockets don't have a player like him.

We had two main areas of weakness before that trade. We had no legit scoring 2 guard, and we didn't have a center. The trade as it is now, solved problem number 1. However the bigger problem of not having a center will be solved by Yao, and the coming of Bosh...hypothetically.

You're comparison is incredibly off base.

Well based on past history for S&T deals I can tell you its not going to take the world. Hill and the two Knick picks will probably be all thats required to convince them. Throw in a few expirings and maybe the draft rights to Llull to sweeten it if necessary and its done.

Remember, in a S&T the team isn't looking for equal value to the loss of their player. They're just trying to salvage some talent (preferably young and cheap) from his loss. Whatever contracts they would take on would need to be expirings. Thanks to Morey's masterwork of a trade, we have both of those things in spades.

Yeah, but we would have Brooks, who is better and younger than Fisher. Ariza, who is better and younger than Artest, and was on that championship team. Bosh, who is better and younger than Gasol. Yao, who is straight up better than Bynum. Lowry, who is better than Farmar. Budinger, who is better than Shannon Brown. And Scola, who is better than Odom. Oh, and Kevin Martin isn't half bad himself (and is much younger than Kobe)

I'd take that team over the aging Lakers any day of the week.

That franchise player of yours couldn't get out of the first round either by himself either.

McGrady played a grand total of 46 minutes for the Rockets last season. You don't consider that the same as being out the entire year?

Who cares that we didn't make the playoffs without our two big guns? If we had made it then you would have just complained that we didn't get out of the first round. Who is the center that you wanted to acquire that would have gotten us into the playoffs and still been an asset to the team this season?

Why do I think the Rockets need Bosh? Let's go back to pages 1 and 2 of this thread and review:

We need weak-side shotblocking, a 4 that can space the floor for Yao, rebound and be an additional low post threat when Yao is out of the game. Bosh provides all of those things.
    -aelliott

Adding Bosh would however make us a great team. The benefit of adding a guy like Bosh is that he can make Yao's life easier by spacing the floor and making it tougher to double Yao. On the flip side when Yao isn't in the game or isn't effective then Bosh can be a low post goto guy. That's what we're missing right now.

No matter how good your team is, if you have a chance to make it better then you do it.

    -aelliott

Bosh is one of the best players in the NBA and if the Rockets are able to acquire him then it would be a huge plus for the franchise. In the end it comes down to Bosh deciding where he wants to play. If he decides he wants to play in Houston then the Rockets have the resources to make it happen and we'll be a contender.

    -aelliott

I've already told you why we need Bosh: rebounding, week side shot blocking, PF with a perimeter game to space the floor, 2nd low post option...

I also said that if we get Bosh then we're a contender. That means that we have a chance to win a titile. That's the best you can get. We could acquire Lebron James and it doesn't guarentee you a title, it just give you a chance.

Here's as simple as I can make it for you : Bosh would make the Rockets a better team and give them the chance to win a title. If Bosh got us to the Western Conference Finals isn't that an improvement? If you can make the team better you do it and Bosh makes us better.

So let's hear your alternative to Bosh. Who makes us a better team than Bosh?

DM is a great trader - so far. I still think he will make a few bonehead moves, sooner or later. He is human. I am fairly certain that he is, anyhow.

Using your terminology, he is 80% opportunist; he will generally make any deal that significantly increases our talent level, keeping team salary in consideration. The 20% has to do with realities, such as Win With Yao; not having 9 big men on the active roster at once; trying to have a team that will draw fans, even if they might win less than a differently-configured team. Not that I can give an example of this last one.

The guy would make a fortune in real estate.

Morey's a good GM. That entails a little of both.

The difference between pure opportunism and Morey opportunism is that with Morey, you can't immediately say every time that Houston just took advantage of an opportunity to improve their assets. The Lowry trade, for instance, was not an obvious win when it was executed, but Lowry was a player that Morey thought highly of and had plans for...and it panned out. Same for Morey's drafting: every team gets draft picks and/or has the opportunity to buy them like Morey has. Morey, however, has used the draft to net guys like Brooks, Budinger, and Landry with late picks that on average NBA teams don't get quality out of.

The Lakers were a top 4 seed at the time of the trade. Not to mention, they kind of have this player named Kobe Bryant that was a big factor in those titles.

It's time for this ABC2007 fellow to answer aelliot's question- what is a better alternative for the Rockets to pursue than Bosh?

Ok this one of the stupidest posts I've ever read, right up there with the dudes who keep claiming LBJ is mentally soft.

The trade netted us a rookie, a pick swap next year and a lottery pick the year after. Tell me how are those gonna help us make the playoffs THIS year?

Also Tmac played a total of 45 minutes this season.

My only argument against this line of thinking is how can you be sure the team will be better by pursuing Bosh? Talent-wise a Bosh/Scola frontcourt is miles better than a Scola/Hill/lottery pick rotation, however what about the fact that Bosh will cost the max?

We can afford having a lot of talent now because most of our promising guys are rookies. However what happens in the near future when its time to pay Brooks? I personally don't think we can keep Bosh, Ariza, Scola, Lowry, Yao, Martin and Brooks on the roster at the same time, we'd be looking at a Lakers-sized payroll, and I'm not sure Les will continue to shell the bucks year after year.
