I think you misunderstood my point. I believe that it is awful that the WSJ (being as trusted as it is) would say things as outrageous as calling Clinton (or any official) a drug runner without concrete proof. I don NOT believe that the lack of a libel suit has any meaning. My point was that the WSJ apparently manufactured their claims. As such, should Clinton have wanted to, she could have proven Times malice and sued for libel. That she did not do so is not instructive. It is simply a choice she made.

In short, on this one Sam...I was kind of agreeing with you. Scary, I know...but it will happen from time to time.

I may have done a poor job of articulating my point. After all...I was printing out my monthly advertising when I was posting that.

 

I would love to see this practice done away with entirely. A person's finances are their own business.

 

Not if a candidate is advocating one policy while quietly doing the opposite.

But yes, in theory, it shouldn't matter.

Michelle Obama Caught On Tape At Trinity United Making Racist Remarks

Larry Johnson over at NoQuarterUSA.net is reporting that GOP opposition researchers, who have had the unenviable task of watching 17 years' worth of sermons at Trinity United Church of Christ (looking for appearances by Barack and Michelle Obama), have found video of Michelle Obama, in Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church, "railing against Whitey". UPDATE: Johnson has now confirmed this video's existence with three sources in the GOP.

The GOP plans to release these tapes shortly before the election, should Obama become the Democratic nominee. This will be the Willie Horton/Swift Boat surprise the GOP is so fond of (see note on this below). This is why Democrats lose general elections: we do not properly vet our candidates, and open ourselves up to embarrassing surprises.

HillBuzz has mentioned before that Michelle Obama is not known in Chicago as being a nice woman: she's been rude, in person, to several of us at events held at the University of Chicago, so we have personally seen the "real" Michelle in action (which, truthfully, is not all that much different from the persona she's shown in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and other places where her remarks have embarrassed her husband's campaign; in person, she just pushes and shoves a little more and doesn't tone herself down when media isn't around). We've also seen her, on camera, say things like "(she) wants to scratch Bill Clinton's eyes out" and that she would "have to think about" supporting Hillary Clinton for president, if Clinton was the nominee and not Obama.

For those who would say whatever Michelle Obama says or does shouldn't matter, let's remind you how every word out of Bill Clinton's mouth is scrutinized, analyzed, and routinely twisted by the media. Also, if someone's spouse makes statements like the ones Michelle Obama appears to have made, it most definitely reflects on the candidate (we also remind you that every word out of Mrs. Kerry's mouth was scrutinized by the media as well in 2004). Barack Obama's associations reflect on who he is, as a candidate and as a person. The biggest association of his life is his wife, and her behavior, in public and in private, is an influence and reflection on him.

If Obama is already losing states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Florida, Michigan, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, California, and Kentucky because of his lack of support amongst blue collar voters, then having Michelle Obama's ranting and raving shown 24/7 on the news networks and YouTube is not going to help him any. This is precisely what the GOP is planning on doing: making Michelle Obama's anti-American, racist remarks the buzz of a general election campaign.

Face it. If Obama is the Democratic nominee, then McCain will be our next president.
