please, t-mac hasnt brought his team to the second round of the playoffs as of now.... Wait till he bring the rockets to the next level then we will discuss this!!!
If you consider Chuck to be an all-time Rocket great (I don't), Barry also has to be up there. 1. Hakeem 2. Moses 3. Elvin 4. Calvin 5. Clyde T-Mac hasn't done enough in his career (not just as a Rocket) to be put ahead of Clyde. Clyde put up comparable numbers in Portland to what T-Mac did in Orlando (less scoring, better shooting and assists), and he's had more playoff success.
Once T-mac wins a championship or two here in Houston I think he will easily move into the top 3 along with Dream and Moses. Whats funny is that they were doing this same poll on the Rockets site on nba.com and Yao is second and T-mac is third in the overall voting (dream is still first). I cant believe that T-mac and especially Yao are ahead of Moses, Clyde, Chuck, Elvin, etc.
(this is probably old - but I hadn't heard it before) - I spoke to a friend who is a Dallas fan - they had to quit their message boards when Wang was playing there because they had WOF dominating the boards! Apparently the Mavs cost Wang the chance to be the greatest centre of all time....
I don't really know how Clyde or T-Mac (or even Elvin) gets consideration. Clyde helped like crazy that second championship year, but he's more Blazer than Rocket, even still. And if Charles had been there then, he'd have done the same. When it comes to temp Rockets, I'll take Charles over Clyde. He played harder, and more consistently hard, than Clyde did. I'd go: 1. Hakeem 2. Moses 3. Calvin (but please keep him off the mic) 4. Rudy The 5 spot's waiting for someone who actually plays with us for some years and succeeds. Right now, if you ask me, it belongs to Sam Cassell. I hope Yao or Tracy takes it over soon and I hope, whomever or both, they ride it up a few notches.
So I guess there might be 2 categories: 1. The greatest players to ever don Rockets uniforms, and 2. The players with the greatest contributions to the Houston Rockets. The scary thing is, you might have to put Pippen in the first top 10 list.
Hardly. Hakeem Malone Hayes Barkley Drexler Barry Lucas McGrady Yao Francis Pippen never had the impact on a team any of those ten did and that's just off the top of my head. Some other Rockets history scholar could probably do better. In the second list though, you can count Pippen under Pig Miller, Thomas Hamilton and Rodrick Rhodes, since he had a negative impact on the team in general. Best punk in the right place at the right time? Sure. Best top ten at anything Rockets related besides biggest bust? I don't think so.
Well, certainly any list with Robert Reid on it. Father Rob should be on an all time list, but not ahead of Rudy. Rudy was one of my top three when I was growing up. It was him, Calvin and Moses. But that was before Hakeem. Uncivilized to leave Rudy out of the top 5? In Rockets history? Who are you going to skip to put him there?
I will bump Calvin just for sentimental reasons (not counting his coaching years, mind you) but I will be fine with Rudy @ #6.
as much of a b*stard as he is, pippen ain't worse than yao and francis. when either of them is the runner-up mvp (behind some guy named hakeem) or makes 8 or 9 all-nba defensive first teams we can talk. as for what he did with us, let us never speak of it again.
No you don't pippen should not be on any list, (excluding the list most overrated ever, but lets not get into that one) you know what sad is: the who is the greatest rocket ever poll on the rockets website: Hakeem Olajuwon 42% Yao Ming 31% T-Mac 21% Clyde Drexler 3% Charles Barkley 2% Moses Malone 1% Rudy T. 0% Ralph Sampson 0% Elvin Hayes 0% Calvin Murphy 0%
Are we considering what they did while not being a Rocket or just what they did as a Rocket? If its as a Rocket its gotta be: 1. Dream 2. Moses 3. Calvin 4. Clyde 5. Hayes 6. Sampson 7. Reid 8. Horry 9. Rudy 10. Cassell
1. Dream 2. Moses 3. Clyde Drexler 4. T-Mac 4. Otis Thorpe 5. Calvin 6. Rudy T 7. Elvin Hayes 8. Ralph Sampson 9. Charles Barkley 10. Yao Ming 11. Steve Francis 12. Rodney McCray 13. Billy Pualtz
