I just wish that Uncle Bob could have a private conversation with Andre and ask him what he thinks about the offense, the play calling, Kubiak, and Schaub. Just a frank discussion between the two men about what the Texans need to do in order to win a SB.
I don't think Schaub is elite, never said he was. He needs to avoid the pick sixes. Those are killer.
go into the off-season with the intent of finding schaubs replacement, in the first round, even if the plan is to sit him a year.. let schaub finish out the season because there is no immediate solution. thats why you asked the question. go into camp with an open competition..
at least you didn't say start TJ Yates or Keenum. i'm actually a keenum fan and would love to see him develop enough for the texans.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/23/matt-schaub-ive-just-got-to-be-better/ This is like Oprah saying she's got to lose weight.
This is such a disengenous question. It's not like Schaub detractors have only been around for the past 2 days. There have been complaints for years now and the Texans never made a single attempt to even think about a backup strategy. The Texans could've drafted a QB. Perhaps a successful one, perhaps a bust. The Texans could've gone after Peyton. Perhaps successfully, perhaps not. It's not like there were never any chances. To sit here today and say, "well, what alternatives are there?" when the Texans spent a total of 1 5th round pick on a backup QB in the past 7 years doesn't exactly seem sincere.
i know schaub has his limitations. each year though, i saw improvement in the texans with him at QB. yes, they went 8-8 for a few years but were never a "complete" team like they were in 2010. then schaub goes down in what could have been THE year. last year looked like the texans were dominant again until the Patriots humbled them which led to the eventual slide. do i think Schaub's part of the problem? yes. but i know having a bad O-line and defense is too. drafting a QB early is a mistake to me because i view schaub as above average (yea, call me crazy). i'd rather upgrade at the more glaring weaknesses of the team.
Schaub will bounce back just fine, and will likely be in the #8-12 "best QB" range at the end of the year. But after what I've seen so far this year, I'm thinking that we ought to be using our 1st round pick on a QB next year. Schaub has 1-2 more years tops, IMO.
Heard this on 610, from Seth : Of the Top 36 QBs, who ran 8 times or more last season , Schaub did not make the list. Top 36. Schaub operates in a bootleg offense, but did not make the list. Top 36. Sigh....
The guys on NFL live don't get the Schaub hate. Talked briefly about it when they showed a picture in Houston that had cut Schaub spelled out on a fence on an overpass.
This is one thing that really gets me. Could you imagine a QB that could run just half way decent? Pick your poison.....bootleg would be deadly
