I remember back when he was at Tennessee he couldnt win the "big game". Even though his team kicked the crap out of Ohio State with Eddie George, Terry Glenn, Rickey Dudley, Shawn Springs, etc.....

That's when I first heard Bobby Bowden's quote: "its only a big game if you lose it."

Then I remember his last college game against Nebraska. He was getting pressure all day, putting the ball in TIGHT spots to his WRs who were quickly tackled by a superior defense. They got very little RAC which their offense was predicated on. Jamal Lewis was a freshman and the line didnt open up many holes for him. But it was on Manning. Add insult to injury when the next season Jamal Lewis (now a seasoned sophomore) tears up the NCAA running the ball and Tee Martin wins a national championship.

So is Tee Martin more clutch than Peyton Manning?? Or is winning games with 11 players on the field at a time more about the 11 than the 1?

Thats from a month ago, and Schaub hasnt gotten any worse. Thats too much credit his way, he's not really even in the top 10 in for MVP. But having his name mentioned in the running means he's doing something right. Wouldnt be too far off to say Schaub is a top 25 player in the league 1st half the season.

I think Schaub performs well in the clutch, but obviously his team has let him down late. And the running game is letting him down early. But its about the team. Schaub's doing what top 10 he needs to do, need all the other units doing what they need to do, including coaches.

This really even shouldn't be worth discussing. I mean the guy is third in yards only behind Manning & Brady and seventh in touchdowns.

In fact, he could easily be number 1 in td's. They kind of shut it down against the Raiders in the second half and we ran the ball like crazy against the Bills.

Peter King listed him as the top offensive player in the AFC in his half season grades.

humor was not the intent. but, I've noticed that you're incapable of picking up on some of the most simplistic concepts, so I understand that common sense is not your forte.

    This is dumb.

Let's bottom line this, regarding this ONE GAME - with facts.

What's the most fair way to say which quarterback "led" his team better offensively? Well, in my opinion the best way to measure his effect is how many points he either led them to or put them in position to score.

Vince Young led his team on drives that SHOULD HAVE scored his team 23 points, right? They scored 20, plus the three on the missed field goal. So 23.

Matt Schaub led his team on drives that SHOULD HAVE scored his team 23 points also, right? They scored 17, plus TWO missed field goals.

But.... VY nation says he "just wins" and is much better.

I say... if Vince Young won a National Championship for Notre Dame, no one in their right mind would make that argument here. I also say that if Matt Schaub went to high school in Texas, played at UT, etc. you'd be making similarly absurd arguments for HIM.

All of you arguing how much better VY is, please.. just be honest. You like him better because he's "your boy". Because based on everything else, he's just not as good as Matt Schaub. Never will be. If any of you are gonna sit there and say to me that Vince Young could ever be depended on to carry an offense, throw for 300 yards just to keep your team in the game and lead his team on drives to put them in position for chances to win and then absorb TWO missed field goals in a close game and STILL use his magic Vince Powers to win the game ANYWAY - really, I just don't see what hope there is for you, because that MAKES NO SENSE.

Vince has scoreboard. Yes, that's what really matters. Mistakes by Texans cost them the game, but not mistakes by the QB who threw for 305, two touchdowns, no interceptions and put his team at the 25 yard line with 8 seconds left for a game 42 yard tying kick that most NFL kickers make in their sleep.

I get it. Vince is a Houston boy. It's over. Let go. He's not better than Schaub. He's in the PERFECT situation for him, so I expect him to do well. But please - put down the pipe. If I am gonna have to listen to this 'coulda shoulda' bullcrap for that dude's entire career, I'm literally gonna move to Canada and follow my team from afar - because I've just about had it.

And yes, OF COURSE Matt Schaub is a top ten QB. Every measurable standard for determining this says so. He has absolutely nothing to prove to Vince Young. The Texans as a whole have a lot to prove to this city. They need a running game, they need a CB who can catch wide open interceptions, they need a defensive line who can sack a quarterback now and then, and they need to take care of the top level free agents they're in danger of losing.

THEY DO NOT NEED A QUARTERBACK.

    JUST.

    STOP IT.

    Next question please.

That’s all well and good, but a top-ten quarterback HAS to make the big plays when the game is on the line. Clearly, Matt Schaub has not done that. His play has directly led to 4 of our 5 losses.

    Let’s take a look:
    • He fumbled the ball on the goal line against the Jags
    • He fumbled the ball on the goal line against the Cardinals
    • He missed a kick that would've sent the game to OT against the Colts
    • He dropped an easy first down catch that would've kept the potential game-winning drive alive against the titans
    • He missed a kick that would've sent the game to OT against the titans
A top-ten quarterback does NOT make mistakes like that. Tom Brady has never missed a clutch kick. Peyton Manning has never dropped a pass on 3rd down.

Matt Schaub is not CLUTCH. Clearly, he needs a good pep-talk, or something.

Don't forget he also missed a block to let himself get clobbered and throw a pick in the final minutes of the Indianapolis game.

Wins and losses are attributed as a QB stat so then you call up some crap QB who has won a lot of games because of his team's defense and running game. Brilliant seeee!!!1111

How about this stat. Matt Schaub has a losing record for a team that in his tenure on the team is perfectly .500. That's how clutch Matt Schaub is for the Texans. The guy is money.

And I will personally buy you center court tickets to a Rockets game if Colt McCoy ever puts up a 4000 yard, 30 TD, 95+ QB Rating season in the National Football League.

Matt Schaub two weeks in a row now has calmly and methodically taken his team down into makeable FG range at the end of the game.

I don't know how that wouldn't be considered clutch.

DD's credibility on NFL matters went out the window when he asserted that Colt McCoy would make a better NFL QB than Matt Schaub.

Chances of this coming to fruition are slim and also none.

VY did not just play for the longhorns, he changed Texas football. Without him maybe maybe we are still ok with with a top 10 finish. After VY we expect championships. Mac Brown had trouble winning big games. VY brought Mac his only big 12 championship (might change this year). Whenever you thought they were going to blow a game VY carried them. That rose bowl performance is one for the ages. So he isn't just some guy who played for UT.

By the way how many pro bowls has matt shaub been to?

Do I think matt shaub is a better passer? Yes
Is he better for this team? Yes

If you put him on the titans without the passing weapons he has here does he still put up the same numbers? I don't know

But don't diminish what VY has done.
