but when push came to shove in CLUTCH time, which is what this question is about, he put his team in a position to win despite his poor play earlier in the game. Yes, he tends to hold onto the ball to long because he wants to make the big play and yes he forces the ball at times.
I think he's had some clutch drives... like the 3rd drive of the game in 2007 vs CAR...Texans trailed 14-0, Schaub led the Texans down the field, made it 14-7...Texans then reeled off 34 straight points...just because of a great drive led by Matt. The drive when the Texans and Fins were tied and the ball was inside their own 20 in the 5th game of the year in 2007. Late 4th, vs JAX in 2008 when the Texans were 0-2...too bad the D couldnt get make a stop or two... we all know about the MIA game last year...and the GB game... the game against the titans this year...the bengals game in the 3rd...cardinals game last drive after the total screw up on the previous drive... he's made plays, and he's f'd up...comes with the territory I guess...
never. not once. i would never label anyone clutch because i think it's mostly an empty, totally irrelevant idea created by lazy sportswriters and spouted by (for the most part) lazier fans. what i did do was directly answer the question *you* posed: Has Schaub ever made the play to win a game or performed dominantly over a half or a quarter to win a game the team shouldn't have won? you keep trying to weasel out of that, turning the argument around and around on itself, hoping no one will notice that you've dug yourself a deep hole you can't get out of. bottom line is yes, schaub has made a play to win a game - last year against the dolphins. until you acknowledge this, and admit you were dead wrong, please stop responding to my posts in this thread. he's having a very good, borderline great year.
The ONLY player you could consider "clutch" on a football team is the kicker. For everyone else, there's too many other parts in the equation.
I'm not weaseling out of anything. I threw out an impromptu definition for a subjective term and now you're trying to use it as the standard. In retrospect I should have said made an extraordinary play or series of plays to win a game because any couple hundred NFL players could claim to have made a play to win a game. Four yard QB draws aren't really high on my clutch list unless you're running through a safety or diving over a linebacker.
so when you posted and posters responded with games that met your criteria, all of a sudden that's not what you meant? In the Titans game this year as i said earlier he brought them back to victory. It was a game the Texans shouldn't have won. Even if you use that logic that Titans are a bad team, the Texans were spotting them points every other possession....basically just giving them away. Yet, Schaub brought them back. You asked has he ever made a play to win a game. There was the Miami Dolphins game. But since it was just a 4 yard QB draw, oh that doesn't count.
keep digging... he drove the texans 76 yards in 1:40 with 2 TOs. he overcame a sack and converted 2 4th downs, including the game winner. it definitively answers the question you posed. and then there have been a host of other games in which he's played well and done all he could to put his team in position to tie, this year at least, tie games. to hang jacksonville, arizona or indianapolis on him in terms of delivering with the game on the line is just plain silly. not perfect by any means; but good enough.
I'm starting to think DD and CometsWin are the same people. They make ridiculous claims/statements and encourage people to prove them wrong. Often times, such as this, several examples of evidence are presented to disprove their "theories" by numerous people, and yet they disregard it and act like that stuff never happened. It's as if they watch different games then we do
Yea, that four yard QB draw that came on a 4th down, with so little time that it was ultimately going to be the last play of that game. The last play that meant a win or loss for the Texans which if I recall correctly, has been noted to be an impromtu run by Schaub, doesn't count only because it doesn't agree with your argument.
for the 4th loss in a row, Schaub takes the team in position to at least tie the game before the end of regulation...and his teammates let him down. freak man, if we had at least gone 2-2 we would be sitting pretty right now.
Seriously. The people behind me were going crazy about Schaub last night. One lady said this team will never go anywhere with Schaub as the QB. I mean really? Over 300 yards, good completion percentage, 2 touchdowns, put his team in a position to score at least 23 points (2 missed FGs) but maybe more if not for some major drops... I don't get the issue...
Schaub is ok, but for some reason he underthrows receivers, he holds the ball too long, and he seems to make bad decisions sometimes at crucial points in the game. Again, I think he is average, but not in the top 10 -12 in the league. DD
Why do you keep coming in here and saying that? I thought it was poor manners in the world of forums to repost the same message over and over again, especially in the same thread
OK! I'm going to say! I am putting on my FIRE PROOF coat SCHAUD IS NOT CLUTCH!! . . . BECAUSE KUBIAK WON'T LET HIM BE! 44 seconds on the clock . . . 2 times outs. Let the man Sling it! Kubes never thought about trying to go for the win. Seems like he was going for the TIE immediately Rocket River
That is a good point, why doesn't Kubiak trust his QB? He has a good completion percentage, great receivers an ok line....let him go to work. Maybe Kubiak is the one holding him back. DD
you're aware the titans were playing defense, yes? and that they were likely specifically defending *against* schaub slingin' it? i can't imagine being legitimately upset that kubiak didn't irresponsibly send the texans onto the field to take huge risks and potentially throw the game away. especially at home.
