I think it was a well intended poll. He did mention a couple of preseason games. Nothing much to talk about these days.
He should be able to become a really good PG eventually averaging about 18 PPG. I don't think you call that average.
the Rockets signed a marketable player on a 3 year contract at a time when the team will suck for a couple years. He can be a below average starter, and worse than Dragic / Lowry, and it's still a good signing.
Rockets future cornerstone... too much hype around this guy. it's fair to say that people will be disappointed.
LOL cornerstone players make max money not 8 mill. what do people expect? for him to lead houston to the playoffs? If the Rockets finish at 500 somehow, that'd be an accomplishment.
So we already know a player's future after a couple preseason games? Let's give the kid at least a full season before make any conclusion. Did anyone notice that most new registered fans (2012) either Lin-hater, or Lin-lover?
SMH. He's being paid 5 mill this year. Even when the salary averages out he's getting paid to produce at an above average level, not superstar level. Cornerstone players are superstars. I don't think Lin will ever be a superstar but he has all-star potential.
Even after 1-2 bad preseason games I still think Lin will play like an "average" NBA starter this year. Mike Conley, who I consider to be the definition of "average" (5yr $40M deal), gets you 12 pts, 6 assists, 2-3 rebounds, 2 steals, and .379 3 point %. Lin will likely have a lower 3pt% (and higher TOs), but probably get you a few more pts and rebounds while drawing way more fouls. I think people have way higher expectations of what "average" in the NBA really is.
You're exactly right. Anyone with higher expectations was way too high and will be severely disappointed. (FYI - 'supposed to be' ).
Lin is an average player that will create above average revenue. I like the Mike Conley comparison when talking about stats and production but Lin is in the top 5 in the league when it comes to buzz and hype and marketing. Pretty good deal for the Rockets at 8 mil./year.
Exactly. Plus Conley is in his 6th year in the league (all of which where he got significant minutes) so we know his ceiling is pretty much set. Lin at least has room for growth.
FWIW, a Knick blogger grades Jeremy Lin: http://knickerblogger.net/2012-report-card-jeremy-lin/ In spite of all of the nasty, mean-spirited crap being thrown at Lin by certain members of the NY media, MSG/Dolan people, and easily manipulated Knicks fans since Houston made him the offer, there are still a lot of Knicks fans who support and believe in Jeremy, people who remember how truly magical it was to be in NYC (whether you were a Knicks fan or not) during the height of linsanity. PS. Yeah, I'm here because of Lin. I'm rooting for the Rockets and all of their young players. I'm learning the team and truly wish them all well. But I came here because of Lin. Sorry to those annoyed by that. I'll try to stay as quiet as possible.
1 for 10 is 1 for 10 in any part of the season that sucks. Seems more of a regression at this post in the preseason. Maybe it was the system. Above average player can do more than just score to win a game. Lin cannot. AVERAGE vote.
