Why does he have to play in the Olympics again if he chooses not to? He played even before the "Redeem Team" if you guys remember correctly. Plus they'll still have the likes of Kobe, their team leader Carmelo , Bosh, Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, and so on. That's an all star team right there.
He's not being selfish. He's thinking of himself and his other commitments, of course. But he's not being unreasonable, so I wouldn't call it selfishness.
See this is one of the reasons why athletes become injury prone: playing all year round. I've never seen anybody which can withstand 24/7 basketball commitments, just take a look at Yao Ming: when he started out you wouldn't think he would be breaking his legs every single year (I mean they're the right proportion for his body and he's not exactly a high jumper so the impact shouldn't be that great). Playing for the country is great, but he already did that two times, why blame him for sitting out when there are a ton of guys who haven't even gone to one team? I'd rather he look out for his own interests, and more importantly whichever club is going to be paying him the max.
how could u say he was selfish when he nearly TD every game with point rebound and ASSIST come on now
this isn't what the article is about but I'll address this... it's easy to get high assist numbers when you have the ball 90 percent of the time and it must go through you to get to scorers. I bet almost all of his assists come after he's triple teamed. Yeah, really selfless. Coming from a guy who wants to be a billionaire? Who the F* needs that much money? That's such a pretentious goal that he won't even know what to do with that much money if he gets it.
Its representing your country in a world tournament? I think as a millionaire for the NBA, he should feel obligated to represent us...
I dont see either side being overly wrong or overly selfish. Its about Team USA establishing concrete commitment terms. And its if someone like Lebron has extenuating circumstances being too ultra busy to participate. Its 'If you dont do __ you cant have __.' I think thats fair. If a player willingly participated knowing those commitment terms from the start, they shouldnt feel bad later. Dont try to waltz back into the medal rounds when it "means" something later. Breach of unwritten contract
umm to have money to fall back on after he retires and to have his family and kids set for life even after he passes?
http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2010/04/lebron_james_says_he_doesnt_re.html I still support Colangelo. There's others out there that are on Team USA that want to play and show up for all 3 years. I'm not saying LeBron doesn't want to, or that he wont be busy, but if he's not going to participate this summer, others have got to get a shot at the Olympics then.
