Battier may have a good season but he is a quiet guy who won't speak up during games. The only guy who can guide us is Deke IMO. James and Francis can fight hard when things get tough by their example even though they look for their shots first.

Um..you keep saying he's the most accomplished. What has he accomplished? winning the highest scoring title on a very bad team for one year? That's the accomplishment?

did i say he's the most accomplished in the L?

i said he's the most accomplished on this team in terms of INDIVIDUAL accomplishments yes. what's wrong with that?

he won the scoring titles 2 yrs, has been on 6 all-nba, 2 first teams, 8-time all-star, so yes, that's a pretty accomplished resume.

team accomplishments, now that's something else and u got me there.

Individual accomplishments aside, the biggest knock on T-Mac is that he's yet to get past the first round in 10 years.

So T-Mac and "most accomplished" should never belong together in the same sentence.

Why does every freakin thread have to turn into a Yao vs. T_Mac thread....

If all the players are not listening; MJ or Majic could be leading them and it wouldn't make a deifference.

Basically they need to work and play as a team... Doesn't matter it T_Mac, Yao, Frances or Shane is leading them... Know your role and play as a team.

his individual achievements have not been accomplished by some of the top 50 players of all time.

most peeps in the top 50 don't even make it to 2-3 all-nba and dude already has 6 on his way to possibly 9-10.

it's something to be talked about.

A leader has to be from Yao and Tmac, right now Rox have two, Tmac and Yao, but as a leader, Yao is a slight better than Tmac, Tmac just talks too much before we finished the wins.

Patrick Ewing once got blocked by Muggsy Bogues, does this make him a lesser player?

Yao is the best center in the NBA and one of the two best post players in the NBA. Too bad that you can't stand the fact that he's so good.

well there's really only 4-5 post players in the L. yao, duncan, shaq, dwight (and even howard has no great offensive game) to name a few.

most big men are now perimeter oriented.

Yao's the leader? Uh, no. How is he going to motivate his teammates? How will he get them to perform better during games? With his quiet determination and his amazing never-seen-before 'lead by example' approach? Newsflash folks, McGrady's been 'leading by example' for pretty much his whole career, and it's not very effective. There's no reason to believe that Yao's 'leading by example' will be any different.

So, I think that someone vocal has to step up in order to bring the players together. The passive way of leading a team is not going to get it done. If McGrady or Yao all of a sudden develop Duncan's quiet leadership skills, it will be a great day for the Rockets indeed.

Far too many people on this board believe that being a leader is all about giving rah-rah speaches and "being vocal". The fact is- there are very few natural born leaders in this world. Most people in this world are just followers or "sheep", which is not a bad thing- its just our predisposition.

People can be molded into effective leaders, and while its not the same as a natural born leader, its still effective. A prime example of this is the military.

Now, while tmac and yao are not natural born leaders for the rockets- it does not mean that they cannot lead of this team effectivley. True Leaders lead by example- they let their actions speak for them, not their words, but their actions- something that tmac has hopefully learned from now.

I think yao could lead this team, and im disappointed he hasnt asserted himself a little more- whether it be because of the language barrier or not wanting to cause tension with tmac but i feel like he could be the rock of this team.

If everyone does his job well,it doesnt matter whether there is a leader or not. :) Actually i think Yao is a good leader. As Yan_Fan_2007 said,Yao's only question is his language skills, but that can be improved. He's getting better and better.

    To be straight guys
IMO, we don't have to over worry about this LEADER issue.
The only thing we should worry about is win&Championship, when it comes, there must come a leader, TMac or Yao...whatever
Just let it be...and wait to see

    One name: Luis Scola.

This is the guy that is going to get everyone fired up when the playoffs come.

And this is the guy that is going to get this team rocking and socking San Antonio in the WCFs :D
