Interesting idea. Do the rules really allow you to decline an option and still keep your right of first refusal? That's kinda messed up.

I dunno if its been said in this thread, but the best trade is the one not made, when Morey tried to trade him for a top 10 pick in last years draft.

Interesting. Without (shudder) reconjuring Boozer/Cavs, a gentleman's arrangement BEFORE declining option to in effect buy out the option year with contract terms preagreed to sounds like a thought?

The way Landry is playing is GREAT!! Only drawback is how will the wizard be able to pay up when some of these guys contract is up? I wish some would take a pay cut in order to keep the chemistry of the team going for years on end.

Good thought process, but remember that the cap is going down next year, and he'd inevitably be in that second group of free agents who would not demand $10m+. There will be less money to be thrown around, and you saw the market for David Lee last year = non-existent. This a great idea, decline the option, and match an offer that will probably be in the $6-7m range...

Lee was a restricted free agent. Landry will be unrestricted. There's always some team willing to throw crazy money at players who aren't really in that category, some e.g Magic-Rashard, Sixers-Brand.

    Landry's Style

adter watching Landry's play this year I kept trying to figure out who he reminded me of... A PF with the quickness, speed and determination and the one person that came to mind.... James Worthy..

Especially when Landry makes that first step.. Like looking back in time...

You are not alone. I thought the same thing a couple games back.

He has a money midrange game and quickness/explosiveness around the basket.

The differences are that Worthy was more of a 3 and Landry a 4. Landry could rebound better. Worthy could play the perimeter game better defensively.

Of course, James WAS the #1 pick AND had Magic feeding him those Silver Plate Specials every game too.

So, instead of the "not picking up option" route, can the team pick up the option and negotiate an extension withi Landry this summer to lock him up for a while?

I love Landry, but you guys are overestimating Landry's value. The priority of the team after this season would be to get Scola back, then go for Landry.

I say no because it would take a Bosh type player for Morey to do it. And if you didn't include TMac to make the money match up, you would have to start unloading Scolas, Battiers, and Lowerys to make it work. The only two players I can think of that are remotely worth that are both retired and were inducted into the hall of fame recently.
