that is just stupid nonsense. how did Kobe get that reputation of a great defender. the opposing coaches has seen what Kobe did to the opposition. Battier is also a great Defender; but he just have the athletic ability and quickness of Kobe.
If it's a question between T-Mac and Kobe there's no question that Kobe plays better defense, regardless of where Kobe ranks in the overall scheme of things.
He made the finals in his third year. Let me repeat that his third year in an era wildly considered one of the best ever. The entire franchise was only 6 years old. The Magic were 21-61 the year before Shaq, then 41-41 as shaq average 24-14 as rookie, then 50-32, and then the finals year they were 57-25. The next year they went 60-22 but ran into an MJ led Bulls. He left and the team fell 15 games going 47-35. He didn't win a ring in orlando because he only stayed for four years during which he was new to the NBA and ran into the Jordan's and Hakeem's. Sorry he could only win four rings on two different teams and make a fifth finals on a third team. I guess he wasn't really the great player we thought he was because he couldn't win all 5.

The dude can't win the championship every year. Sorry he could only average 29-12 during the regular season and 26-12 during the playoffs for the year in question. and BTW it was only Penny's second year. And I will take the Barkley/Hakeem/Ewing/Mutumbo/Malone/Robinson/Pippen/Clyde/Ritchmond/Mourning/ Reggie/Jordan era over the Bird/Magic era.
