He has been below average at defense this year and it has to do with age and effort. He does not attempt to play through screens, doesn't bother defending pick-and-rolls, does not rotate hard to shooters, and guards the weakest perimeter player on the floor at almost all times. If he gets on any defensive team this year, it will be solely on rep.

    **** yes!!!!!

Wade deserves all-defensive team more than kobe

inconsistent defense, reach in most of the time when he plays focus D

Yes, Kobe is one of the most overrated defenders of all-time. He was never among the few best perimeter defenders in the league. Even in his prime, I remember he would spend most of the time (even in important playoff games) guarding the other team's worst offensive player.

Yes he is so was MJ

I guess he's really following the path of MJ and eventually joining him as an overrated legend

He can't go all out on defense during the regular season, when he is the #1 option on offense. Games are too close together with little rest.

During the playoffs, it's a different story with no back-to-back sets. There at least 1-2 days rest between each game.

I think that title belongs to our very own Shane Battier.. he gets way too much credit from the media

Shane Battier was one of those guys who was incredibly underrated for a number of years (in Memphis), but became overrated once the media figured out that he was "underrated" and couldn't accept the fact that he was finally getting the appropriate level of credit.

Do you have any sort of proof to back this up?

How is Kobe a better defender in the clutch than Hakeem Olajuwon? I seem to recall that one of the most important plays (if not the most important) of Hakeem's career came when he was able to step out and defend a SG on the final play of an elimination game in the NBA Finals. How many big men in the history of the game have the kind of quickness and athleticism to do that?

proof is kobe has been selected into more all nba defensive teams, he brings it year after year, yeah a play is important, just like kobe's block on sabonis, how many guards r there to block a jump shot from a 7-2 guy

red_alertz/goodbug/kobe********** thinks kobe is a better player than anyone who has ever lived, so take that kind of delusion with a grain of salt.

I hate Kobe like the next person in this forum, but I have to give him his due. Before this season he's was a good defender. This season, his knee and maybe being up there in age hasn't help him, but to say he's overrated is just kicking a man while he's down.
