he's not. i know when we got him that we got him for ONE reason: to score and score efficiently. and he's doing that. we all know he sucks in every other category besides scoring the ball.
It would be hard to get foul calls in the last couple of mins of the 4th quater. So playing martin three and half quaters would solve the problem , and we can throw him in when we need his FTs in the last min.
You guys are kind of missing the point, Martin is doing what he was brought in to do on offense. It is defense that he is not doing, or trying to do...he and Miller just don't even try on that end. And it looks like that lack of effort is permeating to the rest of the team...where the rest of the guys who used to fight, no matter what....aren't doing it, or can't cover up for others who just don't even try. DD
Martin's minutes were limited in the 4th. If it was because of his shoulder, that's fine. I don't think it was because he still played after that. He only had 16 points when the 4th quarter started. Adelman has to continue playing him early on in the 4th if he has less than 20 points.
I think Kmart would try harder on D if he was playing with a healthy Yao Ming....or some other superstar player that the Rockets don't currently have. I like Martin's game alot because he knows how to get to the free throw line, but he along with Scola are 2nd-3rd tier players, and they need a superstar player to maximize their strengths.
I doubt Morey brought him in to suck in every other category. I'm sure he assumed that Martin would try his best and the team could cover for him. It was just a poor assumption.
Martin's defense is one of the WORST I have seen at the shooting guard position. Inexcusable for a guy that lengthy and speed.
He saves his energy on the defensive side of the ball. I never liked the trade. It disgusting to me that he's in a rockets uniform.
Watching Martin play so far makes me miss Landry even more. They may play different positions, but the differences go even more than that. Their mentality to the game is polar opposites.
I came into the season thinking that the poor defense after martin arrived last year would be fixed, but I'm now convinced that Martin's just not capable of good defense. The guy is soft and barely gives any effort. I don't remember ever seeing him not in an upright position while on D. Jackson was just destroying him. Besides the lack of effort, I think he just has a weak mentality. That's probably fine if you're the 3rd or 4th option, but right now he's 1st or 2nd. For that matter, we don't have any one who can score in crunch time. Only AB can do that consistently--and he's out. With Yao at peak form, Martin would be deadly on offense, but Yao's nowhere near peak form. The inside out game plus the foul-drawing talent would be a serious weapon, but w/ no Yao, the pluses you get from Martin are being completely taken away by his defensive problems. I think Morey's got to think about shipping him out, because the attitude is really affecting the defensive chemistry out there.
No he shouldnt be the fall, you are right. But he just stands out by the way he plays (not seeming to care).
But if you're Morey and you believe that Yao will return to peak form, shouldn't you keep Martin and wait it out?
By the time Yao gets back, he'll have been out for a month and have to get up to speed PLUS work his way back up to where he was before the injury. Let's say it takes 2 months for Yao to get into pretty good shape. That brings us to around the trade deadline. We're already in a major hole--the likelihood of us getting out of it by that point is pretty low. Maybe we crawl our way back to playoff contention, but 15 games into the season, I've seen enough to think we can't go far with the defensive sieve that is Martin. We need more two way players that aren't necessarily exceptional on offense, but decent enough and pretty good on defense. We have enough offense, although we'd benefit from someone who can score with the clock winding down. Martin is a good scorer with time on the clock, but not as it's running down. So, if a decent opportunity to get a SG who can play good defense and decent offense, I'd jump on it if I'm Morey.
yes. i want this guy traded but only if we can get someone who can score almost as much as him and can play defense because seriously his d and shot selection drive me crazy, even when he makes those pull up threes i want to throw a shoe at my tv. do we have any discipline on this team? none that i have seen
sorry yao has been out so long i forget about our offense with him...in actuality we need to see how we play when yao is at 90+% but how long do we wait? can we afford to push it till the trade deadline? not with the way were playing now...seriously these guys need a kick in the butt they don't look inspired out there at all, well not all of them at least. and im really sick of martin and his stupid drive when he has his man beat he jumps sideways and never gets the call ITS NOT WORKING DUMBASS so so so so mad right now, having an awful vacation in a this god forsaken mountain town in like -10 degree weather and i come home to this ****? give a fking break houston /vent
