Most finals losers flop the next year. Avery Johnson has taken a team with an early season hangover(0-4) and only one non-starting All-Star selected by the coaches, not the fans, and resuscitated it to 41-5 over the next forty-six games. Johnson has blended defense into an already potent offense creating a team that can win nearly any which way. Jerry Sloan has the Jazz playing like there in a fight-to-the-death bar fight every night. Phil Jackson is actually teaching basketball 101 in L.A. His players are actually getting better. He must know something. JVG comes in somewhere after those three. wab
I think most of us agree JVG should win it. And I think it is not Rocket love bias. Unfortunately, we all know that he will not win the award. Jerry Sloan will win, just because he has never won it. It is his "turn" to get recognition. And he if you think about it, he deserves it. He has a better record with really a worst team than the Rockets. Even without Yao, we still have a superior team. Why do we all prefer to play Utah over San Antonio, Lakers, Denver in the playoffs?
Well, if AJ gets 65 wins from his team, you can't deny him the award. I mean, thats insane to get that many wins and think its all the players. They only have one great one. That many wins gets him COY even if Gundy gets 52+ from his.
