Not that I'm not happy, I want him to succeed, but lets be serious about this, dude can't play. He'll probably have a highlight here and there but he's a bust.
let's give him several more games before pinning his value, i still haven't forgot how terrible he looked in the previous games, one or two good games are not enough anyway when our starters come back, he will go to the bench again, just hope he can have some solid play now so he can have some value when we decide to make a trade
As someone who posted above you. I've posted while he was in Europe a couple of years ago that Dorsey fit a need, but left Rockets on bad terms. I was probably one of the people early on that said Dorsey would make team besides crappy play in training camp. After a few bad games to start the season, I've mentioned that he had turned it around defensively, but not offensively. Last night was the first night he had an offensive impact. I don't expect much from him offensively, but he's had several good games defensively lately not counting garbage time. He's an adequate backup center.
Was at a concert last night so didn't watch the game live and didn't bother checking the score until around 11:30 EST because I was expecting us to get blown out again, imagine my shock and surprise... Newsflash, this team is actually pretty good when the bench steps up and plays good solid basketball... Pretty awesome s**t !!!!
The point that I'm trying to get across though, is that people in this thread were judging and making fun of Dorsey's offensive game, and it really made no sense to me, because the Rockets didn't sign Joey for offense. Everyone knows that Dorsey's biggest strengths are defense and rebounding. How can you really show these strengths playing in dogghouse garbage time minutes.
Dorsey was signed as a defender. He showed just that last night. One game though. So, I will wait until All-star break to draw my conclusion.
When we first drafted him, he was projected to be a Ben Wallace-esque player. And we were sorely disappointed as evidenced by Yao and Deke commenting that Dorsey doesn't play with them, he just watches them play. But Ben Wallace's first four years in the league with Washington and Orlando were rather bad, and everyone thought Orlando won the sign and trade that netted Grant Hill.
Dorsey's defensive awareness and rotations are really really good. His shot blocking ability is excellent. He grabs a lot of boards (in traffic) for size due to his athleticism. His biggest weakness is that he sucks at not picking up cheap fouls. I'm not sure how much value he can actually provide. But I think he's not so bad after all.
Ya think ? reading threads in last nights game gives you all you need to know about the average emotional intelligence presented.
Notice that on the block/dunk video he is smart enough to slow down just a little as his team mate hits the glass. Result ? Perfect position as the ball came off to slam it home.
The man is not lying when he says it was only 2 weeks ago that his injury actually healed. 2 weeks for getting some of his wind back and legs under him is just about right. Just look to Jason Terry. he also was over coming an injury. As stated by the Jet, I'm back now and there's much more to come. he also was not lying. People have trust issues.
Maybe off-topic, but talking about bigs and euros. We shoud not be quick to judge everyone that comes from that league. Those guys play an all around team game. We are just now coming out of our ISO-minded offense and reaping the benefits of this kind of "team first" culture. So, we should really try to see where Morey is coming from bringing in all these guys from there. Capella is getting a lot of flack for sucking it up in garbage time, but if you have been watching his D-league play, as i have, he is a monster when he is comfortable. When he and Dorsey eventually get comfortable, that seconds string front court defense unit will be just as good as our starters. Go Rox!
Not sure how anyone can say that Dorsey is the "worst signing ever" when this team just had to cough up a 1st rounder to trade Jeremy Lin. My list of worst "signings" or moves for a player: 1. I think Lin had some good moments and helped win a few games his first two seasons here, but the Rockets could have done way better with the 8.4 mil cap space per they used to sign Jeremy, and could have had a player that they didn't have to shed a valuable draft pick in order to waive. 2. second has to go to Royce White as a draftee. We all know the story here. 3. Third has to be the T-Will trade where Morey gave up a lottery protected 1st rounder for T-Will, and he later became known as the squid. Lots of talent, but couldn't ever get out of Adelman's doghouse, and ended up in the doghouse of pretty much every other coach that had him afterwards. Adelman took a ton of grief at the time for not playing T-Will mind you. Just goes to show you that the peanut gallery here often has no idea what they are talking about. Joey Dorsey on a minimum contract looks pretty insignificant when put up against the likes of these three. Everyone wants to say that it costs us Jeff Adrien? Really... because I'm pretty sure last night Jim Peterson was talking about how Adrien was using this opportunity to audition for other teams in the league and that the T-Wolves were most likely going to waive him when Pek comes back. If the Rockets feel like they made a mistake by letting Adrien go, guess what... they can have him whenever he gets waived again, and again, and again. And they won't have to give up a 1st round draft pick to get him either.
