I'll admit that I'm a huge fan of Lin, but I'm also very objective about his level of play. Atm, I think he is around an average starting pg. But, because he is smart and willing to work hard on the right things, I believe he has a really high ceiling. No where will you find me posting that he is a much better player than he actually is. Lol, I'm finally ok with your response, it's the first honest one. But, yes I'm sure I could find some stats to make my point, since everyone who has put up solid stats are or will be paid well. It's difficult for you to argue your points stat wise because the people your looking for are the ones with potential but small sample size. Yes, the rockets have gambled and found some good pgs. But, the thing about gamboling is that you don't always win, often times you lose. Here is the thing. We both want to see the Rockets win a championship, but we have different opinions on how to get there. The way I see it is that they are so young and inexperienced that you don't know what you actually have with them. I really want to see how much TJ, DMo, TRob and GSmith can improve in the next couple of years. I think we should let them play together for another year or 2 to see what the strength and weaknesses of the the team evolves into, to get a better feel for what we have and what we really need. Then make the moves necessary to improve the team. I'm all for adding another star to the team, but make sure it's the right one but don't add one to just add another star. I'm 99.9% sure Lin isn't getting traded in the next 2 years. When Linsanity happened, the Rockets coaches and gm got bombarded with questions about why they let him go, with the media making them look bad. If they trade him now without giving him a chance to see if he can improve and he flourishes with another team and plays at an all-star level, they would never live it down.
Don't bring Linsanity into this. Lin is not a victim. Lin is a big boy and he received a contract based on Linsanity and potential, alone. Now he has to keep proving that he is worth that contract. I don't believe Beverley is 'hyped' at all. I mean he had a bigger impact than Lin has ever had in his playoffs career. Lin may have been hurt for the last 2 times his teams were in the Postseason(Knicks/Rockets) but we have to judge things on what is, not what may have been. Lin barely attained any experience from the playoffs, and it is unfortunate, i mean really unfortunate. Young guys need that experience of winning and losing and our young guys, Beverley, Parsons, and Asik attained that vital experience--and their careers are going to be better for it. Lin? he didn't get anything out of it. He was hurt, so he couldn't. That alone hurts him in more ways than one--when the rest of the young team just went through a war, and grew from it. Lin hasn't grown like our team just did in these playoffs, and that hurts him in more ways than his injury did.
chris paul is NOT COMING TO HOUSTON to play next to Harden. All Kin has to do is play just like he did the last month of the season.....minus getting hurt. 17 and 7 plus is approaching elite numbers...Lins not going anywhere......they have to replace him with someone whos better.....whos better, Chris Paul ...yes he is.....hes not coming.... Harden and Lin was the top scoring back court in the NBA...they were a top scoring offense and Lin was the point guard....how about some reality here? The problem is down low...
This is an excellent analysis! And I'm betting that Morey and McHale are both confident that the chances Lin gets better are pretty good, just like I am. His numbers this year are just as good, if not better than Tony Parker's his first 3 seasons. We've seen what he can do when it's all clicking so we know the skills are there. Just give him time and enjoy the ride.
oh and by the way, Beverly has never scored 39 in a game....EVER...but he has gone 3 games with substantial minutes without scoring....
Thank you for your honesty also but I just want to add another iteration, with Daryl Morey he has been morey succesful than not at finding cheap but talented point guards. All that has to happen is the right superstar is added to the trade and Lin is gone. I beleive it is more Les than Morey who wants Lin. Moreys Moneyball approach with do Lins contract in.
The way i see it, Lin has 2 seasons to show what he has. One season down, one to go. If he doesn't pan out, he's just going to be a 15 million dollar expiring contract that Morey is going to try and unload.
None of elite PGs want to play with Harden, unless they are going to retire and desperate for Champion like Nash playing with Kobe. Their stat. offset each other, so OKC didn't start Harden and WestBrook together !!!! Lin had no choice because he was RFA and no one expected Harden's trade.
Thats a good way to look at it and if he stays I hope he grows in an elite player, maybe he will who knows. But I would rather trade him and asik now for a star and try to sign howard.
Beverley has had a better playoff career than Lin has to this point. Something Lin cannot disprove. Lin was hurt, so it's not his fault, but that's the reality. it's just factual. All we have to go by is what's reality and what's happened so far.
If you can get Howard for for a packaged deal of Lin and Asik, i say do it. It'll hurt to see these promising guys go, especially Asik, after his coming out party.
I know Lin is not an elite now. If he stays, he has no chance to become elite His upside will be Derek Fisher only.
I never said he was a victim. If he is, I wanna be victimized and make millions too. But like you said, we should judge things as they are and The facts show that Lin was the PG who helped us to a 45 win season when Vegas and everyone else didn't have us pegged for better than a .500 team. When you look at his stats since Feb, he has been solid (except for a 4 game stretch where he played about 20 min a game). Yes, it would've been nice to had him healthy in the playoffs but we have many more playoffs to come in this young team's future.
No i think we can clear room to just get Howard however, if we want a third superstar we should use Lin and Asik. If not.. Asik Howard Parsons Harden Lin We would have to trade Asik, maybe an snt for cp3 or LMA. Howard LMA Parsons Harden Beverly or Howard T Jones Parsons Harden Cp3
Without Harden, this team would not have even been close to .500. With that said, yes, Lin has proven himself to be an average starting PG so far. Lin has 1 more season, if he doesn't show marked improvement, he's gonzo. That 3rd year, 15 million dollar contract will be a valuable expiring contract for Morey to unload for cap space, if need be.
This is quite funny. OKC didn't start all 3 at the same time mainly because, I don't know, of some guy named D U R A N T. They had enough fire power and play making as it was. It was ideal in that situation to bring him off the bench to take some of the pressure off when their star players needed rest. It was like having a backup wb/durant to a lesser extent. Lol.
he can't shoot like Derek Fisher. Where do you get these comparisons from? Lin is like a very poor man's Tony Parker. He is not a great spot up shooter.
Lin's contract, just like Asik's, only hits the Rockets at $8 million each year. It is technically paid out as 5/5/15, but for salary purposes is treated as 8/8/8. If either of them are traded, then it reverts back to 5/5/15 for salary purposes. This is actually what makes them harder to trade, not easier, because it makes them more valuable to the Rockets while also harder for another team to take in that final year. Also, even if your assumption were correct, it's always harder to get a team to take a higher-value contract straight-up than not because most teams don't have a lot of cap space to begin with. If Morey had to trade Lin (or Asik), he would almost certainly have to include several other players that offer better value or take back several players that don't offer as much value in the process. It's not like you can just shout out, "Hey guys I got a big contract I have to unload who wants it?" and expect some random GM to show up and take the guy off your hands, especially if they know that you need to get rid of it, they'll try to get more out of you in the process.
