Where the comparison really fails is when you consider that Jackie was actually really good at his sport.

Not just that, but blatant hardcore pc racism was justifiable during Robinson's time. The few allies he had that brought him in the league also told him to just take it as it is. Be happy you are a major league player bs.

Jeremy Lin may not be in the NBA if not for Jackie Robinson. Sports Illustrated drew the comparison for shock value. Other significant ways in which Lin must view Robinson as his role model rather than equal:
-Jackie Robinson went to UCLA (who refused to offer Lin a scholarship) but could not graduate due to financial hardship.
-Robinson challenged segregation in the Army prior to his baseball career.
-Robinson's own teammates and opposing players threatened to strike if Robinson played.
-Opposing players, managers and fans taunted Robinson with racial slurs.
-Robinson had his own comic book. I'd like to see Lin's face on this one: "Rookie on Trial"

Also... it takes balls to send a message such as this one to the President. Robinson deserved to be deified.

What's even more crazier than the question is the fact that 65 people said yes.

This diary (as well as the other Lin diaries) speak to the Lin Derangement Syndrome that has affected what appears to be a substantial number of into a majority of users of this site.

It seems to me that Clutchfans members have a lot of issues with Lin, even though he comes across as a hard-working, decent guy who doesn't cause or stir up trouble. If I were to sum up the issues that the Lin obsessed skeptics (maybe LOS is a better term than LOH) I would highlight the following:

    1. He's not Dragic or Lowry (never mind the fact that Lin's numbers are comparable Dragic's and Lowry's numbers when they were in Houston and that the 2013-14 seasons represents the first breakthrough season for each of those players).

    2. He has a big contract. There is a lot of griping about the size and structure of Lin's contract (almost daily).

The truth is he is paid an average of $8 million per year for 3 years. Houston got tremendous value out of Lin last year as he was paid $5.2 million as the starting PG for at team that made the playoffs for the first time in 4 years. His performance in the second half of last year's regular season was key to making the playoffs, as Harden's numbers diminished due to injury. It's also in part because of that result that Dwight Howard found the Houston Rockets to be an attractive destination. This year, Houston has again obtained tremendous value from Lin (paying him $5.2 million), as without him the team would easily be 6 or 7 games worse in the loss column given the key performances he has had when Harden and/or Beverley have been out. That's the difference between a high seed and a low seed. You can gripe about the $15 million final year payment but really, he has been underpaid by about $6 million through his first 2 years.

    3. He has a lot of Asian fans.

Clutchfans seems obsessed that Lin has a lot of Asian fans, and a lot of fans that watch the Rockets just to watch him play. Never mind that Drexler, Barkley and Pippen brought fans from other markets to Houston when those players joined the team.

Clutchfans folks are somehow bothered that Asians living in Asia and Asian Americans identify with Lin in a way that they didn't with Yao Ming. It is not up to Clutchfans all to pick the sports heroes for other people or determine the legitimacy of another person's belief or support of an athlete. Lin's story is inspirational to a lot of people. Deal with it.

"Members of Clutchfans" should replace Clutchfans in each sentence. Way to stereotype us.

What bothers "members of Clutchfans" is not that fans support Jeremy Lin but rather that many Lin fans have invaded Clutchfans with the sole purpose of blowing smoke up his ass. What bothers "members of Clutchfans" is that this detracts from rational discussion of the Rockets because Lin fans are so sensitive to criticism when he is not performing.

Lin is not comparable to Jackie Robinson. Deal with it.

First, his numbers were not comparable to Dragic's and Lowry's

Secondly, you realize OP is Asian American and right? and so am I, and a lot of other people on this board who you claim "have a problem with Lin having Asian fans"

The fact you brought up Pippen means you know nothing about the rockets
