1 star for the thread and loaded question.

    5 stars for trolling though.

Kind of insulting to Robinson to compare him to Jeremy Lin.

Sometimes it is necessary to take action, especially when it is something as ridiculous at this.

Yao Ming was. Lin fans are so ignorantly blind, it's pathetic.

Lin is not even good. He gets way too much time devoted to him. He likely won't be here next year and he definitely won't see another contract here unless it's for a benchwarmer type deal.

This was in response to someone claiming Lin had to endure more hardships than anyone and racism to get to where he is today. My post specifically states that those are people who actually faced racism and hardships, not Lin and his cushy life. Little did I realize, there are some LoF's genuinely dumb enough to compare Lin to Robinson and believe it. Then again, you can never underestimate the insanity of LoF's.

Yeah when the LOF swarmed clutchfans they made this dumb analogy as well as accused long time members of racism and clutch of bias.

They suck , I wouldn't have made this thread though.

My complaint is in the Jeremy Lin and hotties thread.
    1. Some of these chicks Sam cassell would reject
    2. Chandler Parsons would have a longer thread if it's him and hotties

That's because Yao Ming doesn't count as Asian . Lin fan says Yao is different cause he's not from California

Jeremy Lin is NOT the literal Jackie Robinson for Asian Americans. And he certainly hasn't been confronted with the same level of overt racism. And Lin isn't being used by Les like Branch Rickey used Jackie to make a statement.

This being said, one could argue that Lin is symbolically a Jackie Robinson figure for Asian Americans in the sense that Lin is the first representative of a minority ethnic group in a sport that has not historically had players of that group (Yao Ming, Mengke Bateer, Yi Jianlian, Wang Zhi Zhi don't count because they're Asian, not Asian American -- that would be like using Dikembe Mutombo to represent black Americans). So Lin bears the weight and hopes and fears for many of the Asian Americans in the U.S. today. And how Lin does will, fairly or not, have a tremendous impact on how other Asian Americans are perceived in the NBA and perhaps other major sports. And there's probably quite a few young Asian American ballers who look to Lin and draw inspiration, just like young blacks may have been inspired by Robinson in the 50s and 60s to start playing baseball.

So I can see why people would be annoyed by the comparison of Lin and Robinson but I also see the other side of the argument as well. If you answered "no" to this poll, I'm guessing that you've probably never felt what it's like to be a minority. If you answered "yes" to this poll, then you may want to qualify broad statements like "Jeremy Lin is the Asian Jackie Robinson" with specific reasoning so you don't annoy well-meaning Caucasians who hate the race card and really believe in egalitarianism.

Well said. This was the OP's original intent that a lot of you are overlooking. I'll post it again below.

Heh... I know its public. This poll is a joke.

Although, I do agree with the OPs original intent. No need to be derisive about it.

It's doesn't matter whether Lin sucks or not, he's reached a level of prominence and success through his Linsanity period that he now carries the burden and hopes for many Asian Americans. The only way he loses the mantle is if he basically continues to "suck" and peters out.

If Lin plays well (e.g., 18 pt/8 ast), he'll maintain the burden.
If Lin does what he is currently doing, the debate will continue for a few more years. If he reaches age 30 and he's still putting up 13 and 5, then people will realize that he's reached his ceiling and the burden will naturally dissipate.
