What you said is exactly my point. Most people only have strong empathetic feelings for the guy whose experience mirror their own. It's not about pity party or tears. It's about understanding. Too many people here point fingers without really understand.

The irony is that a lot of present day middle class blacks experience the kind of tacit racism in the business world more similar to what Asian Americans experience than what Jackie Robinson did.

This thread has been moved to the D&D. I'm out. I have no stomach for this place.

He could end up being either the Warren Moon or Doug Williams.

He's the Jackee of Asians, you don't know if you really like him or not; but there might not be another one for a while so whatever.

    Hell Yes.
Jeremy Lin just opened all the doors for future Asian ballers to come into the NBA, just like Jackie did. Broke the racist color barrier, like Jackie.
    Just wait and see.

The implications of calling him Robinson is ridiculous

During Robinson's time there was so many talented black baseball players that were equal or better than the MLB players at the time that were kept out purely because of systematic racism.

the truth is there is simply not a lot of Asian Americans that chose to pursue professional basketball in high school. The lack of Asians in the NBA is simply due to the dearth of prospects and not any sort of racism. This might be stereotypical, but I'm sure most Asian Americans have their priorities on academics and getting into good colleges than spending their time trying to get into the NBA.

The real racism is basically scouts stereotyping prospects. but that is not uncommon in professional sports. black players have always been stereotyped as athletic, while white players are more or less stereotyped as non-athletic, blue collared hardworkers, and Asians are probably stereotyped as people who don't play basketball.

Jeremy Lin didn't open any doors for anyone, because there just isn't a enough population of Asian Americans out there that want to play in the NBA, at least compared to blacks.

Plus it's not like Asians didn't get into the NBA before him, plenty of Chinese players are scouted daily because NBA scouts, how do you think people like sun Yue, yi, Yao etc are drafted if Asians are "discriminated against" by the scouts.

I've been purposely avoiding this thread. And WOW, I hope most of the yes votes are sarcastic.

Since this is the DD. **** Jeremy Lin. Asian Tebow. He'll be out of the league soon. Rockets keep good relations with China for Les' pocketbook yayayaya.

He is just not good enough to be anything than what he was, a fringe 15th roster spot who couldn't make this team even when it was a lot ****tier.

If anything, he is the asian M. Night Shyamalan. Made 2 great movies to make his mark, been given plenty of chances after that but has fallen off the mark ever since because of high expectations.
