Oh yeah. As far as Van Gundy rolling over in his grave, he's been dead for 5 years now, so his body is just dust.....

Update JVG watched last night's Jazz Rockets game and suffered a massive heart attack. He was quoted as saying is this some kind of shooting drill I haven't seen yet before he passed away.

People are so stuck on JVG and his style of play from 4 years ago. Did we win anything with him as coach or am I forgetting something? Yeah, we were a top defensive team, but were were one of the lowest scoring teams in the league as well. What good does it do to hold a team to 85 pts but you struggle to score 82 a game? This is a different team with a different style. We are still building this team if you haven't forgotten. Morey KNOWS we need a another PF and/or backup C on this team that is capable of playing defense. That is his next move im sure. We don't need to be a lock down defensive team, just be able to get stops when we need them. So please stop trying to rehash the JVG days. Those are long over.

JVG had his year where Yao was out.......and the team lost like 48 games....

Rick Adelman seems to be doing a little better than that.

I like JVG as an announcer, he is awesome in that regard, could not stand him as a coach.

Such a crappy offense, so little imagination and movement.

Glad he is where he is now, glad we have Adelman piloting the ship going forward.

Van Gundy wouldn't play half these guys. let alone trade for them.

he'd never have played AB, Landry or Chase.

Martin is not the type of player he'd pull the trigger on. Dude has a tiny defensive footprint and you gave away the ultimate JVG type to obtain him.

No one a la Yao or Ewing to pound the ball inside to.

This is definitely RA's team top to bottom. JVG look at this team and go WTF??? So yeah he's rolling over in his grave.

But this IS the type of team that Morey wanted. Major reason why JVG had to go. It wasn't necessarily his lack of playoff success. Les was quoted back in the day saying "we didn't even know if we were playing the right type of ball" (referring to JVG's teams). Management didn't believe in his style of ball.

Our defense has been dismal but did anyone really think we would be above five hundred at the beginning of the season? Charles thought we would be fighting with NJ for the worse record in the league.

But he played rookies Chcuk Hayes and Luther Head  ? JVG never had to amount of talent that we have now and he didn't have Morey. Even a coach with no brain would play talented guys like Landry and Chase. I don't think Rick would have played an offensively challenged rookie like Hayes. Only a coach like JVG would play somebody like that. Thanks to JVG, Chuck is now a major part of the team.

    Agree.

And someone mentioned having JVG try to coach 6'6 Chuck Hayes. Yes, I doubt JVG could try to utilize our 6'6 Center in a positive way.

I am not a JVG fan but he would appreciate Hayes. He would love Hayes' tenacity.

I know Rick is a offinsive minded coach but I didnt think he'll play GSW style ..

Although we decided to run this year I thought of us as a defensive team ..

We should hold on tight on that defensive indentity while we can .. or I dont See getting close to a championship anytime soon ..

If you take away all your best defensive players, the team is going to play bad defense, with or without Van Gundy coaching.

You actually watch during the JVG era or are you basing your post on what you've heard and absorbed some of the assumptions on this board?

Chuck was a special case. He was brought up on a 10 day only because Houston needed him bad in the wake of injuries. He went out and got a double double in his first game or something. Aside from being a rookie his developmental trajectory from Landry is totally different. I think Carl played like a handful of games his first half of his rookie year

And if you think JVG would have traded Alston prior to a playoff run to start Brooks... no. just no.

Wait, Tom Thibodeau isn't with the team anymore? I thought he was an assistant coach with Adelman? When did he leave?

Who cares about JVG and his D. His results sucked when he was with out Yao or TMac. We saw how well JVG did when TMac and Yao missed significant parts of the season like in 05-06 when he only managed 34 wins.

BTW, when did JVG die?

As some have pointed out, having Scola, Battier, Landry, Brooks, Lowry, etc. isn't exactly like having Dikembe, Juwan Howard, Rafer Alston, Luther Head, and David Wesley in 05/06.

BTW, thread title was a reference to something Barkley once said.
