Bagwell is a sure thing. I have heard Peter Gammons say it. Gammons even said Bagwell will hit 500 hrs.
Buck Turgidson, you dont know what you are talking about. The ligaments that Biggio tore do not affect his swing. They affect his "push off" and his lateral movement. And yes, I have played baseball. I tore my ACL when I was 17 and I was able to play competitive tennis after that. You use your legs more in a tennis swing than in a baseball swing. My lateral movement wasnt as good, but the swing was the same as before I tore my ACL.
While we can respectfully agree to disagree as to how full of **** I am, here's a quote from Biggio on his rehab: "It [the reconstructed right knee] affects everything I do as a baseball player - pushing off and changing direction in the field, planting to throw & the pivot at second, my weight transfer and stride at the plate. It's just something I've got to work hard at, you know, the strengthening & reconditioning so I can feel 100% out there." I had my ACL, MCL & meniscus replaced 4 weeks ago. When talking to my doc (Walter Lowe, Rockets/Texans surgeon) about rehab & getting back to playing sports again (I played basketball, soccer & softball weekly before my injury) he said that, other than football, basketball & soccer, one of the highest impact activities was a full strength baseball swing. The amount of torque placed on the ligaments of both the plant (front) knee & the push off (back - the knee Bidge hurt) knee during the hip rotation phase of a swing are pretty severe. Naturally, Biggio's knee probably doesn't bother him anymore. It's quite possible that his 2000 pre-injury & 2002 performance is his norm at this stage of his career, and that his 2001 numbers were the aberration. Regardless, sorry about the tone of my orig. reply.
