It seems to me that signing James White may be Morey's way of getting some insurance for Von Wafer, in case he bolts after this year. Von is establishing himself as an NBA player and will be in some demand, and Morey doesn't like to overpay, so he may be looking at White as a Wafer replacement. It will be interesting to see if White gets signed for the rest of the year, a good signing IMO, a chance for the staff to look him over, see his work ethic, how he fits the team, and basically keep him away from all other NBA teams. A low risk, potentially decent reward move.....A Von Wafer part deaux.... DD
I see your point but honestly I just see it as a move of getting a low risk, high reward guy with freakish athletic ability and seeing what he can do with our brand spankin new Run N Gun offense. They will re-sign Wafer this year unless someone breaks the bank for him.
I think they simply did Head a favor. White's on a 10 day contract. They could be looking at another NBDL player or free agent after that time.
The economy should help us in our quest to resign Wafer, as he fits great on this team and not sure he would have the same success on another style of team. DD
I love how you guys think White can be a rotation player on a quality NBA team in spite of the fact that he hasn't played a single minute for the Rockets.
I dont see a D league player being able to play defense like Battier. When are we going to see White play? Signing him to a 10 day contract and not using him is kinda pointless...
I think he just wanted to bring another athletic SG to our team. Now we have a few scrappy workers and flashy dunkers, at least if we lose in the first round again Morey will make sure we're entertained
Maybe, but stacking all these wings, seems like they are looking to possibly move some or lose some this offseason. We have so many SG/SFs now. Artest Tmac Battier Wafer Barry White You wonder if he is stockpiling them because a change is coming this offseason? DD
What I don't understand is this... If Luther Head can't crack our rotation, what makes you think James White can? Yes, they're different players, but Luther Head is much more NBA-talented than James White.
My guess is that they will take long hard looks at him during practice and then sign him to a 2nd 10 day contract. From there they should have an idea of wether they want to keep him for the playoffs or not. He is eligible for the playoffs, right?
I definitely think so. With the possibility of Artest and Wafer leaving after this season and with the T-mac situation, maybe Morey is thinking about next year already
