    From 82games.com

This is a measure of the Rockets' PER numbers by position:

    PG: 14.3
    SG: 19.9
    SF: 14.3
    PF: 15.4
    C: 20.3

    Opponent PER numbers by position:

    PG: 13.1
    SG: 12.9
    SF: 13.3
    PF: 16.2
    C: 18.2

    Net PER differential by position:

    PG: +1.2
    SG: +7.0
    SF: +1.0
    PF: -0.7
    C: +2.1

The SG's hold the opponents to the lowest PER on the team. Also, if you click the link below and look at the points scored by position and the points given up, the SG position has the highest differential.

It seems as if the positions with the worst production are PG and PF.

PG and PF's have the most depth in the league. There aren't a lot of dominant shooting guards out there.

All you need to do is watch a Rockets game to see just how bad James is on that side of the floor. He easily gives up more points than he scores every night.

Bearded one, your wisdom come, thou teeth be bung, on earth, as it is in Treasures.

it's not overly surprising, harden gives up the lowest ppp as well (mainly because those reach arounds actually produce a disproportionate number of turnovers). People were pegging the airball putback on Thornton as Harden giving up a back door cut, so yeah, there's a lot of bull**** going on.

This team's defensive problems are the system and it bares out at center, the single biggest issue is the rotations, Dwight lowers opponent fg% but no one rotates back, and then he just stops rotating (this is verbatim an issue Stan Van Gundy touched on whilst criticising Morey...lol), actually watch that, watch what he begins to do when people don't rotate onto his man.

Maybe it's teething problems and they'll get it, not having any practice time due to injuries and a **** schedule certainly didn't help either.

If you watch the games, you know that the McHale tries to hide Harden on the defensive side. So if the opponent's SG is going off, McHale will put Parsons on him.

These stats are not really representative. There is not any context around any of the numbers; PER is not the final say all; and not every possession is an Iso-ball. For example, Harden's failure on defence can force Dwight to help, which leads to easy dunk for a C, raising his PER.

To be fair, when Howard isn't playing, either Jones or Motiejunas or somebody is playing instead.

I'm not drawing any conclusions from the stats.

I just posted them for debate and discussion. Like a messenger.

Last time I checked, 1.2 is greater than 1.

Still the Per number for both PG and SF are the lowest.

Well that's completely false. But yes he isn't a fantastic defender. He is still worth more on the court than off...

its cause the SG doesnt always guard a SG. for leading scorers on a team, they often get assigned to guard somebody who isnt too much of an offensive threat. partly because it helps keep them out of foul trouble.
