As stated before, when it was known yao was done, shane should've been traded. The team was now in building for the future mode and having him playing this year did nothing but show his decline further. I wish we could've gotten raja bell's expiring and alexis ajijanca as a project in return.
I believe we could get something pretty solid with a McGrady + Battier + Landry package. Maybe Amare, Jrich, and also Robin Lopez...
Biggest mistake Rockets made in the T-mac and Yao era, the time to take a step forward with the pick they took a step back had to be the worst draft night I ever experienced.
I think we trade him if we can get any of the following expiring contract, pick or young athletic player. W need to build for the future we are not a Championship caliber team w/ or without Yao.
I like Shane and I think trading him would be the best thing, but I don't think anything can get done before the deadline. He would be ideal on a young team like Portland, but they are so loaded at the 3, it wouldn't make any sense.
Look if we're gonna start rebuilding it's a no brainer that Battier has to be traded. What can we get for him?...that's another question, probably nothing remotely close to what we gave up for him in the first place.
if shane was traded, i would want shane to be traded to a play-off team. he deserves it, and he is a character guy that could help
I posted this in another thread but now realize that this is a more appropriate thread for this postulation: I wonder if the following trade would make sense to both teams: Shane Battier ($6.9M) to Memphis for Steven Hunter ($3.6M expiring contract) and the Grizzlies' first round pick (top 8 protected?) The Griz (who are under the cap and can take on Shane's larger salary) get that wing defender they so desperately need for a playoff push, while not risking losing out on John Wall if they somehow win the lottery or otherwise go down the toiler in the second half of the year. The Rockets get a pretty decent pick (could be anywhere between #11 and #18) plus open up an additional $6M or so in cap room (after factoring in the extra first round pick's salary slot). They also get under the luxury tax threshold without having to trade McGrady or pay another team to take Brian Cook. Unfortunately, Morey very well might be sealing this season's team's fate and opening the door for Memphis to beat out Houston for one of the final Western Conference playoff spots. Discuss.
Actually not bad. I don't know If Memphis would want to give up their 1st rounder. But I actually hate saying this, but think giving up Battier now is the best move, unless something dramatic happens with the trade front on a superstar...
Time to move on from Shane. Love the guy and he has done some great things for Houston but he is on the downhill. If Morey decides to trade him he needs to go to a legit team to where he has a chance to compete.
Bat's defense was tremendous...when we had Yao guarding the post if the player Bat was guarding deciding to take it in. Now, there is no reason for most athletic/speed players to drive it to the hoop.
