If we're going to trade Scola and go with another 4, we might as well drop a draft pick for Anthony Randolph and then trade Scola for talent at another position. Josh Smith.........I don't think he's got the brain cells to play effectively in an Adelman offense. He's not a passer and he's a mediocre shooter even a poor shooter from distance. If we are going to take out Scola, gotta bring in a young kid which gives you athleticism and a varied skill set, the ability to see the floor, pass, ddfend at therim, and shoot the J. Gimme Randolph. Send the Knicks Hill and their choice of picks in 2011, bring in Randolph, then send out Scola in a package for a premier talent on the wing or at the point.
Thank you CCR- Glad to see a level head understanding the bigger picture here. Scola also my favorite Rocket.
So because he has been playing well due to terrible players around him we should trade him to get a younger player that is not as good to play around said terrible players, thus bringing us success.....in the future.....gotcha. Let's not fix the problem with the team, let's just take out the one bright spot and build on that.
No to Josh Smith, yes to Anthony Randolph. Jopatmc, best case scenario, Randolph becomes a poor mans J. Smith. Josh Smith is a 24 yr. old PF who is averaging 15.9 pts, 9.7 rebs, 4 asts, 3.3 blks, and 1.1 stls on the season. What is that you are expecting out of Randolph?
If Scola doesn't take you to a championship and a championship is not conceivable during his prime years, you would be better served to move him for championship pieces.
The point is that we will get nowhere with this team. THE TEAM HAS TO IMPROVE. We need trades and younger guys because the players we have right now either suck(bench) or are growing old as hell(Yao, Scola, Battier).
wait, so you're saying smith isn't smart enough to get this system, but Randolph is? I dont know about that. and has he really shown he's a good passer, or at least significantly better than Smith?...if you get nash along with Smith, then Smith doesnt have to think at all...he just needs to run and jump his way to a dunk on offense, along with putbacks, maybe the occasional J.
Oh nice, someone suggests that maybe this board is overreacting slightly (what a surprise) and you make fun of his name. How clever of you, especially since if we were to trade Scola, there is no freaking way we would trade him until January. At least. So we can wait and see some more about how things turn out.
You're not reading me right? Do you understand that Scola is literally just a stat sheet? He does nothing to open up things for other guys because he can't. You bring in a decent post threat that slams that thing home on a regular basis, rebounds, blocks shots, and can pass and you solve multiple problems with the teams. Problem is scouts and other teams see what I see in Scola, an non-impact player with a stat sheet.
If we are still playing like this near the deadline this becomes a no-brainer, Scola can fetch us some nice pieces from contenders and with all the expirings coming off at the end of the season the Rockets can start over. I know it is hard to accept but Scola and co will not be a part of the team when the Rockets are ready to contend, need to cash in while value is high.
I'm not suggesting we trade Scola tomorrow morning, but instead trade him this season. Regardless, if you want to talk about an overreaction on this board nothing can be more easily referenced than 3 months of Chris Bosh threads, but that is neither here nor there.
So, Scola is a useless stat-stuffer. But we will be able to trade this stat-stuffer for an athletic PF who can rebound, block shots, pass, and I'm guessing draw a double team since this was one of your complaints about him. Uh, sure. Care to name this oh-so-obtainable PF? I will observe that I think the idea of trading Scola for Smith laughable, as the Hawks would never do that.
Trade Scola are you nuts, unlike Battier he's got tangibles. Iron man, decent contract, outstanding scorer, underrated rebounder and he has the type of game that will be less affected with age. The Rox are losing but he's not the problem.
Agreed. But Nash and Smith isn't really rebuilding. That's reloading and going for it. And I may be interested in a Nash Smith duo if they were both attainable and still have Martin and a recovered Yao.
Do u even watch the games?? Or just look at the score without even looking at the stats!! ITS NOVEMBER!!!! We still have time to turn things around! Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure tonight was the first time all season that scola didn't have 20 points! So one bad game for Scola and u think we should trade him!? This is what i hate about this board!! Everyone is always ready to sell out our players after ONE game! First i was brooks, then Martin, then lowly, and now we wanna trade our most consistent all around player!! We are missing two players that demand attention offensively and i still believe that with Brooks and Yao in the lineup we are a top 4 team in the west!!
But why would you put that on him? He has always produced for the team and should not be the only reason the team would win a championship. He is just one of the most talented role players in the league. You want to start over fine, then you start over with the main pieces that didn't deliver. Yao comes to mind. The PG position comes to mind. Trading Luis straight up for a younger PF makes no sense. Now if you can trade him for multiple positions then maybe, but who is going to trade multiply pieces for Luis?
I do not have a statistical expectation of Randolph. I have seen pieces of Randolph's play that make me feel he has the potential to be dynamite in Adelman's system. He can run, fly, jump, dunk, block shots, along with the fact he has a great handle for a big and he can see over the top, make the pass, and he can shoot it besides. He is a multi-talented still very young prospect. If we're going to move Scola out, we've got to bring in players with multi-varied skill sets that on any given night can pump in 25 and the next night they can dish 8 assists while adjusting for the defensive scheme played against them. I believe Randolph has that kind of potential. Josh Smith, on the other hand, sensational athlete, skywalker, rim rattler, shot blocker. But he doesn't have the other skills.
