We need to trade battier and scola to free budinger and landry their stunting the growth of those guys.
Move Budinger into the starting lineup with Brooks and increase the minutes of Landry. You don't have to start a guy to increase his role within the offense.....just bump his minutes up. The biggest reason why Houston's record is even as good as it is right now is because we have someone like Landry coming off the bench. Scola isn't going to give us that production off the bench in limited minutes.....he isn't the powder keg that Landry is. Landry is a devestating 6th man......don't F with it, just bump the minutes up.
Landry is a great option when Hayes is less effective - which is any instance where the opposing team's bigs' offense is so potent that they WILL score regardless of who is guarding them. He fits better with the bench. To have the rotation work you would almost have to start Lowry and Budinger as well to maximize his finishing ability. Also, Landry can dominate any opposing bench. This isn't always the case with starters. So, our overall differential might be greater with him going up against bench players than having Hayes or Scola do so.
It could go either way, but maybe its by design thats he comes off the bench. He is a huge spark! Either way, whoever comes off the bench (Scola or Landry) its going to be good.
Umm no. Scola isn't "stunting the growth" of anybody. All Landry's game has done is grow despite what we have done with Scola. You don't cut off your nose to spite your face, which is exactly what you're proposing here. Trade Ariza.....he's young and has already maxed out potential. When Yao comes back next season Battier and Scola still have value on this team.
Some player pair +/- numbers to consider (not including results from Phoenix game). Keep in mind the level of competition each pair tends to face. For instance, Landry+Scola tend to play towards the end of each half. As has been the case in previous years, the defensive numbers are very poor with that combination. Landry+Andersen is a strong offensive combination, and have defended more than adequately against opposing teams 2nd units. Code: Big Pair min OFF DEF Scola+Hayes 638 105.8 104.9 Landry+Andersen 415 110.3 103.3 Landry+Scola 341 106.4 113.8 Landry+Hayes 97 117.7 105.3 Scola+Andersen 46 90.0 97.8
That's an interesting idea. I don't think Andersen is ready for that responsibility yet, but I wouldn't mind it at some point.
I have seen way too many minutes of Scola and Landry lately. Defensively that's a nightmare. I love the idea of Landry getting more PT, but it's coming strictly from Chuck's minutes. Which on the surface seems fine, but it's not working. Scola and Landry don't work together well defensively. They are both out of rotation too much. Honestly, Andersen does better at defensive rotation than either Carl or Scola. If he could just hit more shots, he too could be getting more minutes. Though Landry still seems to show some good defensive rotations and some good one on one defense, he still needs improvement or his offensive benefits don't help us as much. I agree for now, keep him coming off the bench. Hopefully some more practice will help the starters get back to the successful rotations offensively that we started the season with... as of right now they try one on one and bad jumpers way too often. When they set up the offense and move they get good shots and do better. I'm just frustrated with the lack of motion in the half court. The Rockets can't win if they don't move their bodies and the ball, especially that first unit depends on it.
I think coach doesn't want them on the floor together because he figures that will clog the lane and make Landry less effective. But I am with you.. I love Carl and Luis... just not on the court together.
Man, why Scola was not up on him tonight was bugging me to no end...Frye is not going to put it on the floor....Luis played really poorly on him. DD
His long distance shooting has just been unbelievable. I am curious what he's shooting without Nash getting him all those open looks. What's your answer to the poll, though? With the bigs we currently have, what do you think the rotation should look like?
That's just a really hard play to defend, and Scola doesn't move well enough to help on the ball-handler and get back to the shooter. The Rockets are better off not starting Scola against the Suns. He can't defend Amare or Frye effectively, IMO. Start Lowry or Budinger (or Wafer) instead, and put Battier on Frye.
