I figured it was about that time to start the Fire Van Gundy chants so I strolled on over from the Hangout. Fire him and let him take Ewing with him.

I know it's not popular here to diss JVG because honestly, JVG is not a bad coach. He just doesn't work well with the Rockets players. It's the coaches job to create and maintain team chemistry. That hasn't really be working.

Furthermore, JVG may be a great defensive coach, but his understanding of offense is worse than the average coach. He has two offensive powerhouses that he does not know how to fully utilize. And when a player can't create his own shot, they're pretty much dead in the water in JVG's system.

Courtesy of "Le$ folly" (aka: the one-year extension), unless Mr. Van Gundy chooses to walk away, the Rockets are stuck with him for the rest of this season and all of next.

Even more maddening is the fact that Yao's setting that many picks and yet almost never gets the ball once from the pick. Why not just send Bryan Bowen to set every of those picks and plant Yao near the post? Totally a waste of energy and offense talent.

When can we finally say " thank you and please go" to JVG? After losing 20 games? I just can't wait.

Unless Mr. Van Gundy chooses to walk away, it isn't going to happen. Courtesy of the one season extension (for the record breaking blowout loss in game 7), Mr. Van Gundy is under contract for this season and two more. Short of a total collapse, the job will not be changing for at least eighteen months.

Excuse me, "special" edc, but I was on that bandwagon last year (post #92 in that thread, for starters). And in case you want facts, see exhibit A.

    Exhibit A:
Only 8 teams in the west make the playoffs, of which Houston was 5th, right? Under Gundy... And we exited against the team that went out in 3rd, so we we're at worst 4th in West, and 5th overall as already posted.

btw- check my sig... it has stayed in there as proof I was for it... back then.

    I woke up.

Care to stop hitting the personal anti-Gundy snooze button?

    (btw- I regret posting in #225, 466, 577, 728, 819, 913, 915 and 943 of that thread too.)

Nobody cares about the regular season.

Four teams in the West advanced to the Western Conference semi-finals. Four teams did not. At BEST, the Rockets were fifth in the West.

Eight teams advanced to the NBA Conference semi-finals.
Eight teams did not. At BEST, the Rockets were ninth in the NBA.

Since the NBA does not play a "consolation bracket," it is impossible to say where they fall between 5th and 8th (in the West), or 9th and 16th (in the NBA).

My OPINION is that by taking it to seven games, the Rockets were probably in the upper half of that playoff group. The collapse combined with the worst ever game seven defeat puts them in the middle of that upper half (10th or 11th in the NBA).

 Your scribbles are not amusing.

Gee, that post you quoted says Mr. Van Gundy is not getting fired. If you consider that a troll, I guess you want to "FIRE GUNDY!!!"

If it's the team, can you replace all of them? It all boils down to the coach.

JVG's fault absolutely. He has completely rebuilt this team since he came here. Look at what he has done!!! With TMac in, the rox is playing with 2-3 starters (the other 2-3 do not count). With TMac out, the rox is playing with 1-2 starters (the other 3-4 do not count). While most oponents are playing with 5 starters, how could the rox win? This team is completely screwed up!
I hope JVG will step down soon. The roster will be a headache to any coach who is going to take it over.

I agree totally with this post. Ming's style of play has been changed by Gundy from a much more flexible and less predictable one, to one that is only totally repetitive and predictable, and does not utilize Ming's other skills he had when he first arrived. And except for Tmac that pretty much sums up the rest of the team. They are given a very limited role and plugged into that square hole.

When other teams scout us and plan for us I think they have a very simple plan for shutting down our overall scheme and for shutting down each player.

Phil has had Tex and Gundy has ????

It has to be JVG. Man the Pistons arent that much better than the rockets and they only have 4 players that can score (ben wallace , doesnt know how to score in an empty gym). With coaching from Flip they have up their scoring. Go home JVG and tell Larry to come down.

Tim Breaux has something to say...open your ear holes...

If you guys are looking for JVG to step down...think again...you don't know what that man is made of. He took the heat in the BIG APPLE...where they will eat you up and spit you out...still alive...squirmin and bloody....in front of your mama.

JVG will get it together...don't worry you bunch of softy, sometimesy everything gotta go my way Rocket fans.

Just line up behind the little fella...he'll make believers outta ya'll AGAIN!

Tim Breaux has spoken...now it's back to the bench...All is well in Rocketland.

Yep, typical Knicks start. Players banged up, getting geared up for a playoff run to the 6-8 seed, where we can bang it out for 48 minutes with San Antonio to see who can be the first to hit the 70 point mark.

Just kiddin Tim. You're right. I believe in lil Lee Harvey Oswald. I still think we will finish in the top 4.

Feel free to line up behind him ... on that road out of Houston.

Further, Mr. Van Gundy has plenty of believers. Unfortunately the belief is that he is not a championship caliber NBA head coach.
