I'm selling a brand new item, and the buyer requested the receipt alongside it. It doesn't have my name or address on it, but it does have other pieces of info such as last 4 of my debit card, and my rewards card number. Is it safe to give him the receipt? It may sound like a silly question, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
He probably just wants to know he isn't buying stolen product. I don't see a problem with giving it to him.
Yes, I understand. But is there anything on a receipt that he could possibly use with mal-intent? such as identity theft, credit card fraud, etc?
If it's new and you have a receipt, can't you just return it? Just give him a copy of it, but sharpie over your CC and rewards info.
Uh, they make these crazy things called pens and markers. These amazing inventions allow you to do things such as marking over items on receipts that you do not want shared.
Shouldn't be a problem. He wants the receipt to either make sure its not a stolen item or for warranty purposes. That being said, I read news of a guy who gave away his receipt, and three days later they found him and his family chopped off in his apartment. YMMV
