It took me a while to understand that whatever exists, at whatever relative size or position is the entirety of the universe, there is no space it is expanding in to. Now I think that whatever is happening in the universe is the complete set of what can happen. There is no subset of things that can't happen, if they can't happen, they don't exist, like an empty blackness outside of the universe.
