I don’t think benching Steve for ignoring Yao is necessary because I don’t think that has been a problem this season. However, I wouldn’t be completely against experimenting having Steve come off the bench for a game or two. I think it’s starting to reach the point when doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result doesn’t sound like a good idea anymore. When the opposing team is doubling and tripling Yao because they don’t respect Steve’s shooting anymore and they don’t respect Cato on offense, try a different lineup. Put Taylor in for Cato and Pike in for Steve. JJ plays the point on offense and guards the 3 on defense. Maybe that would ease some of the congestion around Yao. Once Yao is tired, Cato and Steve can come off the bench. Steve can be the focal point of the offense and play the way he’s most comfortable playing. Hopefully that will help him get off to a better start shooting and when the 4th quarter comes and the team needs both Yao and Steve on the floor, Steve will have more confidence in his shot.
One thing about the Rockets offense is that Steve is never the focal point of the offense. When Yao is in the game, yes I want the offense to be ran through Yao but when he's out they run the offense through Mo. If I was JVG I'll run a couple of plays for Steve to start out the game just to get some confidence going because that's what he is lacking right now.
Maybe you should pull "deliberately" out, it is too strong an argument. 5. We don't have a good enough reserve for the crunch time. M Jackson is a liability on defense and too poor a shooter. -Littlefish
i am probably one of the biggest hatters of steve but i dont think becnhing him is the answer. MJ is a excellent point guard but he is to slow and cant play D. Im just waitng till offseason when steve will get traded.
