Is it fair to judge Morey on wether he hits the "Home Run" or not?

I haven't seen a single Morey basher on this forum post a better plan of what they would've done in this time, under the same realistic constraints that he's had to work with:

    • T-Mac and Yao go down with injuries, becoming total losses
    • Free agent superstars are so uninterested in Houston, that they'd rather go to horrible teams in big markets like the Knicks and Nets
    • Stern vetoes the Gasol trade, blowing Morey's three-year plan
    • Les decrees that the team must not tank while rebuilding

The hand that he's been dealt has been so awful that it's actually kind of funny, in a tragic way. Hollywood needs to make a big screen dramedy out of this. The final gag could be Morey letting go of Jeremy Lin right before the outbreak of Linsanity. Or maybe Battier winning a ring with the superstars that Morey coveted, but never got.

We don't need to get Krause for that. The way Morey is worshipped here is similar to the worship of Krause after Jordan left the Bulls. He was also called a "wizard", a stat geek, Sleuth and genius who could do no wrong despite his awful record after the Bulls dynasty. Before Morey even went to MIT, Krause was already producing reams of stats and he was like a "walking basketball encylopedia" per Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times reporters, knowing even the most inane basketball information. Yet, he failed miserably.
Every year Bulls fans overlooked his errors and always thought he "had something up his sleeves". He was, like Morey, a teflon GM.
Unlike Morey though, Krause made some spectacular drafts and trades during his very early stint with the Bulls. He drafted Charles Oakley, Pippen, Horace Grant and Kukoc. He signed Rodman and Ron Harper and traded for Paxson and Bill Cartwright. History shows the great contributions of these great players to the dynasty. Those were awesome players he got for the Bulls so he had some great track record to stand on. Morey, on the other hand, has nothing to show, so far, since he took over in 2007.
It is fair to judge every GM based on the results of their jobs, no excuses. They are paid well and it is their sole job to be the main person responsible for creating a championship or an elite team, at the least.
Owners pay these GM's a lot of money and give them the main responsibility for building the team since they are supposed to know a lot more about basketball than the owner. Owners have other major concerns than to run the team plus their expertise are on other enterprises in the first place.
Cuban is an example of an owner who thought he knew better than his baskeball tried to interfere in running the Mavs but he was voted down by his own players and management team. He deferred to the basketball people and now they have a ring.
Having stated all these, I wish a turn of luck for the Rockets. I wish Morey and the Rockets would get significant players in the draft, trades or signings in this offseason. It would feel really good to feel the excitement of a contending Rockets team again, I miss that badly. I will wait and see.

Did Morey take over a .500 team? 50 win team?
    Lottery team?

That said how are we better today than in 2006?

The biggest problem I see, and really my only critique is that Morey isn't willing to go through a rebuilding process and have a few bad seasons. That's life. You got to go to the end of the line or you get stuck in no-man's land. Been saying that for what, 4 years on this board now?

Of course it is fair, he is judged upon his results, did he put the team in a better position to compete?

That is way up in the air right now.

You cant hit a home run if the pitcher doesn't throw you the ball.

How hard is it to draft or trade for a player who can go to the all star game? I mean, he's been here since 05,06 and he hasn't done it yet. every team in the division except. The spurs have done so and none were lotto picks either. Zach, gasol, west, josh howard were all middle of the rd picks. Is that too much to ask?

The Rockets have been mediocre for the past few years, but worst of all, there's NO direction. Stock piling assets that no one wants just doesn't work.

His strategy is based on collecting "assets" and flipping them for a top 10 pick or trading them for a star. Thus far, he's failed. There's no other way around it. Also, when the entire NBA is acutely aware of your strategy, by default you have less leverage when it comes to negotiations and bargaining. None of the Morey apologists will ever give you a time-frame on how long we should have to wait to see positive results, which we haven't seen until this point.

This is what is so frustrating.
You cannot get the IN MOREY WE TRUST crowd to even pin down a time frame

"As long as it takes. . . Morey knows what he is doing. . . 2 yrs. . 3 yrs. . 10 yrs. . . eventually we will be champions. . . you have to be patient . . IN MOREY WE TRUST"

I mean, who didn't think yao was done after that crash in the playoffs? Instead of trading shane that summer when his value was thru the roof, held onto him a yr too long to play with yao. Instead of letting mcgrady 23m come off the books, he took back martin who was suppose to work well with yao. So since he wasted 2 yrs waiting on the giant, we had to hit the reset button and now start the rebuild. Oh wait, they signed dalembert then traded for camby. All excusses go out the window because portland had worse luck than the rox, but at least they recognized the landscape. They got # pick for gerald freaking wallace. Meanwhile, the rockets won 6 more games and jumped all around the board for wht?

Its fair to judge Morey on being a bumbling idiot who has zero luck according to his fans. Some miserable guy trying to get every player in this league of worth only to fall short, and be slighted by every single one of them. He is the ugly GM nobody wants to play for. At year 3 of also being shot down on deals? Also the unluckiest or most unpopular GM among his peers. If not for his semi decent drafts he would devoid of any talents or luck. However we wont get to see these guys as he will get disinterested with them right after the draft and banish them to the D-league. Some will never be heard from again. Some will be traumatized into a zombie like state of believing they are more of Moreys drones to be role players and trade assets. Then they too will be shipped out for other marginal future deals and draft picks, where Morey tries to get something huge for them. Only to come up short again.
