Nice post Mathloom. Unfortunately, pragmatic thinking is often submerged by emotion.

If you wish to be the D&D grammarian, then please learn how to capitalize and punctuate properly.

I'm not sure what site you are talking about. Where the Islamic center is going was a Burlington Coat Factory.
And so far that hasn't happened. Are you saying that you agree blacks should get reparations?
In that case then it is completely up to the Tea Party to renounce racism in their ranks and we should hold the Tea Party collectively responsible for racist rhetoric that might come out of their ranks.

    1) The Greek Orthodox Church was much closer than the coat factory. Check into the injustices they have faced.

    2) Absolutely. Every living slave should receive reparations. Every living slave holder should serve a lengthy jail term.

    3) Most of the posters on this board convict the tea parties of racism regardless of the fact that we actively run racists out of our rallies. The same blame game on terrorism is happening with the Muslims, and that is just as wrong.

Can you name who is the biggest racist who is still attending or speaking or performing at your tea party rallies?

I know of no racists speaking to or for any of the tea parties with which I correspond.

No idea. Is it because they are Christians? No idea. Have they been getting the runaround by New York City as they have sought to rebuild their church? Absolutely.

You must be a member of one of those really underground tea party groups.

Mark Williams , former Tea Party Express spokesman and current leader of the tea party support group Citizens for Constitutional Liberty

thumbs do you know what a Judenrat is?

Correction, you run people with overtly racist signs out as to not damage the image. It's ok to be a racist, just not make a sign for the media to see.

Of course. Half the people opposing it are truly thinking about the victims and that it's a sensitive spot. Half are because they just hate Islam.

But neither half can justify not building it. In fact, they have a greater obligation to build it more than ever. It's important to have that mosque up - not because it's about Islam or Tea Party or anything else. But because people need to be reminded that there nothing more fundamental or supreme that the spirit of the 2nd Amendment.

A deep irony is here though. The mosque may have not been built if not for this controversy - a 100 million is a lot to raise and their fundraising efforts had not really gone all that well.

Now - with this controversy - they will easily get that money. The people who so vehemently oppose this are actually helping to drive funding for it's construction. And there is nothing they can do to stop it.

Politicians like Sarah Palin know it. Senate, House, even Glen Beck knows it. They know that they can get votes simply by attacking here and it will still get built.

At the end, all of this might be net good for the country. Maybe we need to be reminded that we are humans and that without things like the Bill of Rights, America, just like anywhere else, would resort back to a very dark place.

Judenräte (singular Judenrat; German for "Jewish council") were administrative bodies that the Germans required Jews to form in the German occupied territory of Poland, and later in the occupied territories of the Soviet Union

Non-sequitur. What does this have to do with anything except to infer something offensive?

I am not aware of the situation but in general I would strongly support them being allowed to rebuild. That said I would have to see if there was some reason, involving zoning or a property dispute keeping them from it. If you can provide more info I would be interested in hearing more.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything..

I agree that the Tea Party has been unfairly convicted of racism at times and if you recall I praised them for taking action to address racism in their ranks. That said while I am glad to see that you recognize that is wrong applying that standard to Muslims you are still willing to support the cause of those who do so by opposing the construction of this Islamic center on the basis of the fear it generates among those who look at Islam as being inherently violent. In fact you have even drawn a paranoid what if to justify that.

Don't play a basso, it doesn't become you.You know exactly what it has to do with the conversation.

[edit] BTW Judenrats were jews that ratted out to the germans where other jews might be hiding (think Anne Frank).

"My father championed free speech. He would be the first to say that those participating in Beck's rally have the right to express their views," King wrote Wednesday. "But his dream rejected hateful rhetoric and all forms of bigotry or discrimination, whether directed at race, faith, nationality, sexual orientation or political beliefs."

Hey tea partiers help me out cause I didn't get the emails!

Is it true that people attending the rally are being told to avoid confrontation with blacks and to stay away from certain areas of DC? To stay in "safe" zones?
