I was hoping the Rockets to bring Nick Nurse back at the time, welp i guess #8 is not too shabby from #2...
I dare to say most professionals were overrated and underrated during their careers, no biggie. Most have been there with the ups and downs. His biggest weakness has been Offense and that was abundantly clear in the Finals against the Warriors as well given he had Tatum, Brown, Marcus Smart and Time Lord. Mazzulla was kind of the opposite as he was a Coordinator on Offense and his Team Defense sucked at times.
It was frustrating to watch terrible 3rd string Veterans play over Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore in the beginning of the season. The Rockets would've won more games in the beginning and made the Play In 11th Seed. The rigging Free Throw Lakers don't deserve the 11th. They are a Lottery Team.
Be prepared to be frustrated again. Unless Brooks is traded he will start over Amen. Cam will get about the same, but I bet at least early on, Holiday gets more minutes than Reed. In Ime’s defense, most NBA coaches defer to veterans over young players. It was a mistake last year and it will be a mistake this year.
Ime Udoka strictness and rigidness did cost the Team in Wins last season. Fred VanVleet playing Pick and Roll over and over and Jalen Green standing in the Corner. Dillon Brooks shooting 30 Times, Fred VanVleet shooting 30 Times. That was terrible basketball to watch. Ime Udoka didn't help Jalen Green integrate him in the offense. The first Few Months into the Season. He was left off the offense. Holiday playing together with Fred VanVleet was a Joke to watch. Two undersized Guards getting worked on defense. Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore sitting on the bench watching Holiday play over Amen, Reggie Bullock plays over Cam Whitmore.
It's been so long I totally forgot about the Lakers shooting a million more free throws than the next team while also being non-existent in the paint.
Amen was hurt the majority of the beginning with a ankle injury. This is why it's obvious some of yall be on here simply to troll
Well considering they didn’t make the finals in 22-23 and lost to a 7th seed team I would say they missed a beat. But I believe all coaches are overrated anyway. They set the culture, style of play, and plan for opponents but in the end players execute. Players win championships not coaches.
Coaches are hired and let go the most so I do not care that much that they got overrated. Redick is not the worst coach, just inexperienced.
Ty Lue is very over rated here, Pop out of respect should be much higher. Ty Lue has been gifted multiple hall of famers on most of his rosters his whole career, he has never shown the ability to be remotely successful without hall of fame players / all stars, and Lebron handed him his ring as a coach. Ime is a bit under rated here too, too many analysts were talking about the Rockets like they were a poverty franchise just one summer ago, so they have to ease into their flip flop over time or they look stupid.
Most coaches have their m.o. and their strengths .....for instance Ty Lue, he is allegedly known for his Crunch time decisions and his substitutions. A strategist at heart and very driven in that regard. Ime Udoka is known for his defensive Intensity and rebounding measures. They all have coordinators that are supposed to cover what they lack - In Lue's case he hired the services of a certain Jeff Van Gundy.
This let's me know you watched zero games last year. Holiday played phenomenal on defense last season & Fred was solid. If anybody was a liability defensively, it was Sengun
Holiday hustled on defense and was tenacious. He was often targeted by other teams. He did not and cannot play phenomenally on defense. He was a worthy journeyman signee that shouldn’t get anything but garbage minutes this year.
Pros: 1. He's an upgrade over Silas. 2. His good assistants 3. He improved us from a tanking team to a mid level team. Not every team was able to make that jump. (*looks at DET), Start of last season, DET also got a good reputation coach in Monty (but did worse). Now with new GM and new coach (Bickerstaff), they have to soft-reboot again. Cons / Maybes: 4. Improving from tank-status to mid-status is a relief, BUT, going for middle to upper middle is much harder. Mike Brown even foreshadow this two years ago when Kings lifted to playoffs, but their follow-up year (last season), slipped down. Cavs is another example. We overlapped tank years with them, They jumped from tank status to a playoff team. Good progress overall, but early playoff exits. They're in a solid place, but much harder to get into the contender conversation. 5. Celtics still won their 'chip after Ime left. Yes that roster is stacked, but part of that success is managing big stars and their egos. The year Ime left and Mazzulla came in; I was arguing with Celtics fans that Joe M. is solid; is not a bad replacement at all. While they missed Ime, they're were able to rebound, replacing the assistants too. Since the assistants came here. 6. Goals: if they make past the play-in this year, I consider that a passing grade.
